Just scored an 80 gigger for $7.99 with free shipping and was going to put it in an old laptop and load Linux.
Any reason why I shouldn't do this?

TIA :)

While low power still no where near the milliwatts in devsleep that the consumer drives are. But max power not too bad so as long as it’s mostly on mains power go for it.

Lol, this and your FN thread made me just contemplate whether I could use my old laptop as a 2 disk portable FreeNas server

I used to put more than one disk in notebooks and full of memory and run them as servers for product demo’s etc all the time, these dates it’s even easier as you can just spec up whatever you need from just about any major supplier (HP, Dell, Lenovo, Apple, etc)

true, with today's notebooks that shouldn't be an issue any more
