Good Sunday everyone,
Does anyone have any experience with the NEC 9362-8i? I have one coming, from all places, Japan. The card appears to be shorter than the 9361-8i I am presently using and that is a plus. I went to the NEC site and downloaded firmware from 2016. I believe the card uses a 3108, could I just use the latest firmware from the 9361-8i? Anyone have any experience in using this card in other than an NEC server? My motherboard is an Intel S2600CW2SR (The internal SAS is SLOW!)

Thanks
Ray

I have one generation older card. LSI drivers will work with that card.

I was more wondering of firmware to bring it to the latest. NEC's firmware is dated 2016. There was a firmware released in early 2019 for the 3108 cards. I wonder if it will work.

Thanks

Just spoke with LSI tech support. The 9362-8i cannot be flashed with the 9361-8i firmware. NEC has put their vendor ID in the card which will prevent firmware from other than NEC to flash. Anyone have any thoughts on how to change that vendor ID?

Check card for jumpers. Jumper may revert card to 9361 and then you can flash it.

I personally don't have experience doing this, but here is a start for you if you feel adventurous: Crossflashing the Fujitsu D2607
It applies to SAS2 cards, but some of the tools might work with SAS3 cards as well. As @nthu9280 mentioned in the other thread look for LSIutil.

Good Tuesday everyone,
Well...here is the update. I received the card today, it is shorter but wider than the 9361 which is great for my situation (Intel S2600CW2SR) as I am using this in the bottom card slot. It has 1Gb of cache. I kept my 9361-8i in and booted to the OS. MegaRAID Storage Manager saw the card and I updated it to the latest NEC firmware which is dated 2016. I then took a chance and tried the 9361, 2019 update. Well, worked like a champ. So much for being told I couldn't. No hoop jumping was necessary. SO... I like my 9362, I'm using it in RAID 1. I tried the internal Intel/LSI 12Gb controller on the motherboard. The performance was horrible as there is no cache. I am 100% satisfied. The only thing is I have not seen any of these cards coming from companies in the states. My card was from a company in Japan. Paid $225 and free shipping.

Hello! I know this is an older thread, but I got exactly the same 9362-8i card (from Japan/ebay). Which would be the latest firmware for the 9361-8i? I seem to find it on the broadcom website.

What shows up on a search of 9361-8i is (among others):

Latest MegaRAID Firmware, See Important Note in Readme File
MR 7.10 Version: 51.10.0-2683 File Size: 2855 KB Language: English Read Me 06/07/2019

But the readme does not list 9361-8i, but says "supported controller: megaraid sas 9480-8i8e"

Thank you.

sas 12gbit/s is backwards compatible with sas 6gbit/s, so yes it should support that backplane

Sounds good
If I then connect backplane and controller with a SFF-8087 to SFF-8643 cable this will then work - correct?
