I have one sitting here new in box with i3 (or Pentium if you prefer) and RAM. :) I went with a Dell 1U instead.

I have one of these and was using it in a SuperMicro box, for some reason it didn't like my Oracle F40 card and would take forever to allow the ROM on the adapter to initialize and then when trying to install stuff onto it, it just wasn't functional. It was definitely a board unique issue as that accelerator works flawlessly in everything else. Also, the power on behavior is weird. It's a good deal but I wish I had gone with another board instead.

Thank you @zer0sum !! I just bought three at 50% off because I'm using a very simliar model (E3c236D2I) as my little home server and am used to these and know what to expect.

I also love that I can get a server board with a socketed CPU. Now, with three, I should be able to build a very simple little cluster, especially as the dual onboard NIC's are a huge step up from NUC's that only have one NIC. And the DDR3 is wonderful as I've got enough already.

Thanks just ordered one, looks like a good deal..
From my experiences with the E3C236DI, this is a great deal.

It's an excellent little board that can function as a "proper server" while still maintaining true SFF. A lot of what passes for SFF these days are hardly form factors that I would consider "small".

Unless you need this small size board for E3 v3\4 it's not a good deal in regard to this generation of server ATX-sized SuperMicro boards.

For mini builds this does seem great though :)

I may have some E3-1265L V3 for trade\sale, as I just got-in some higher speed V3s...

There are definitely better options if you're willing to go to bigger boards/cases :D

I'm going to use this as a tiny esxi/proxmox box running opnsense at my border along with some honeypot vm's, and whatever might be fun to have right at the perimeter.

It's a long shot, but does anyone know if you can use the IPMI port as a LAN/revenue port for normal traffic under ESXi?

IPMI is essentially it's own computer running an independent OS. I've never seen a system where you can repurpose the dedicated port.

There are some like superMicro that will "share" 1 port for IPMI and normal usage though.

Yeah, shared port isn't too uncommon, especially on older boards. The PHY on the dedicated NICs is only attached to the IPMI BMC however, so you have no chance of repurposing that.

I need to gather a few more parts before getting it fired up, but so far so good

What is the Tyan board you refer to?
Tyan S5533GM2NR-LE, also Mini-ITX
https://www.tyan.com/Motherboards_S5533_S5533GM2NR-LE

It runs Proxmox hypervisor -- with opnSense and an Ubuntu container (XRDP, Apache Guacamole, qBittorrent)

Unless you need this small size board for E3 v3\4 it's not a good deal in regard to this generation of server ATX-sized SuperMicro boards.

May be interested in the 1265L depending on the price?

Hmmm, I didn't know about that board, but I do think the Asrock is a little better as it has a Type-A USB header on board, and seems to have a better layout of the ram slots and SATA ports
In Oct - Nov 2015 , ebay seller was clearing out the Tyan itx S5533 boards. I picked up 8 boards at $45 each.
It is my go-to board for small form ITX build.

Full IPMI without paying for extra fee.

Add: Tyan S5533 runs vsphere 6.7 without issue. It has dual Intel network.

it was new, if I remember correctly.
S5533 is hard to find, I bought for $50 years back.
I tried to buy late last year for my baremetal proxmox mini-itx(3d Printed Cylinder case model) since like the cheap price (my first bought years back), None was found in ebay.

Finally bought a new mini-itx asrock IMB-181-L with dual nics (Q87, no ipmi, and no ecc support) for $50 total.
