I may or may not need DDR3 sodimms in say a year's time -- if you were me would you stock up now or wait? It seems like ram is rising in value instead of going down especially the "legacy" stuff...
Damnit!Wait for 10% ebay coupon. To make it even cheaper.
Last few months, I brought 16
HP 800 G1 mini barebone $18 each, seller removed I5-4590T and RAM to resell it elsewhere.
Then I had to buy back the I5-4590T ( $40 each ) and RAM from other ebay sellers.
Math: HP 800 G1 DM mini , $18 barebone + $40 CPU + $40 ( 16gb ram ) with Window License.
It makes a quiet , size is small than NUC server that could run Proxmox server , vSphere , Windows server.
It is capable to drive couple of 4K monitor as Windows desktop.
I also picked up 8 x HP 800 G2 DM mini barebone for $35 each , waiting for cheap I5-6xxx CPU and DDR4 ram.
The HP 800 G1 and G2 mini support M.2 nvme SSD as well.
Ugh. Well I’ll keep my eye out for a good quiet Linux box using oneI am a huge fan of the HP Elite series 800 G1 , G2, G3 ( current model, high price )
in tower , sff , usff , dm (desktop mini ) format.
Great value due to off-lease fire sale. Sometime, i am able to buy a cheap unit just for the cost CPU and RAM.
I brought 2 of the tower that you linked for around $75each in 2 auctions. The entire computer is cheaper than some I5-4xxx CPU alone.
