Nice server for all in one box running freenas. Now just need to wait for it to hit eBay.

I would get it with rear configuration that gives the most pci slots. That way I can add network card, optane drive and usb card.

Having this would let me combine my current r720 2u and 3u SM jbod case I use for storage into a 2u solution and probably be more energy efficient.

Finallly! Dell/EMC has an answer to the HPE Apollo 4200...

I would like to know how they are planning on doing the 10 SFF/16 LFF configuration. And It would have been nice to see more SFF options in the rear.

I put that in the middle @cesmith9999 in case you missed it:
We are told that the PowerEdge R740xd2 also offers a hybrid configuration with up to 10x 2.5" SSDs and up to 16x 3.5" HDDs for evolving workloads. SSDs can be installed in the 3.5" bays as well using adapters. Additionally, the 25th and 26th 3.5" (or 2.5") drives can be installed via an optional rear carrier:
