@foureight84 i assume so, and i'm pretty certain. I myself do have a 1650V3 which is unlocked and the Ram multi is also unlocked making at least 3200mhz possible. Since the 1660 and 1680 are also unlocked, i assume that Ram will also be unlocked.

That is freaking fantastic! And also expensive! But worth it.

I'm gonna sell my dual 2667v3 and 64gb ecc ram along with my asus z10pe-d8 soon.

I'm trying to buy the E5 1680 V3 mainly for gaming but also run a few vms in the background. They're still fairly expensive at $700 on eBay. Do you think this is worthwhile (I already have a spare x99a msi gaming mb) or buy a different desktop CPU like a used i7 6950x?

I am trying to avoid desktop PC's for overclocking considering that they are not soldered until the recent release.
Ever consider v2 parts? something like e5-2667 v2 ;)

00 does not mean = no cpu.

00 is the very first step in the POST process.
It staying there means that there are no other progressing steps being made afterwards.

Since i don't know how a Xeon W would behave on X299, it's hard to say if the platform detects the cpu but refuses to move on because it is a Xeon W, or if it is fully refusing to talk with the system, hence being dead or Disabled.

A short side note, Intel disables CPUs during shipping. Or at least there is a patent for that since like 2010, in combination with some crazy RFID stuff.
I tried with both an asus c422 and an x299. both showed an error with cpu. red cpu light and post code 00. So i decided to "delid" with a sledge hammer and big ole screwdriver! Do you think if someone gets this to work, I can try some duct tape and get this bad boy working again!!!20181112_164918.jpg 20181112_162359.jpg 20181112_162758.jpg 20181112_162355.jpg

I think you should troll Reddit /r/pcmasterrace with a story about trying to diy delid an i9 7980xe with tools around the house. End result pic first with a banana for scale

Hmm apparently there's a 10 core haswell 1681 V3, 12 core 1686 V3 and a 14 core 1691 v1. I have never seen these for sale anywhere. It's not on ARK it's especially made. But for whom is the question.

from what i remember they have shown up in HP rigs. they do not have unlocked multipliers like the other 16xx v3 chips. can't remember where i saw it but iirc there was a rumour that they were originally multi unlocked but later reprocessed to be locked, but that sounds a bit wishful thinking-y to me imo.

@joe paolicelli can you please measure the die size ? We might be able to deduct from there.

And That basically proof, it's probably not a xeon W.
So either Dummy, or Disabled.

guess i gona need an RFID gun.

So i finally bought the problem plagued E5-2696v3 QEY8 on ebay, declared as defective not booting on a X99.

First i noticed i don't have ddr4 rdimms lying around (sadly they were ddr3 rdimms), but all the x99 mainboard manufacturers say the e5 xeons should be working with udimms. Did anyone had problems with unbuffered memory and ES xeons? I tried it with 2 different sets of DDR4 Udimms, no success.

So i started trying around with a whole bunch of different microcodes (and no microcode), i always ended up with the Q-code 55 (no memory installed). Without any actual memory installed i end up with Q-Code 53 (memory initialization failed). So yeah...

I already wanted to give up here but luckily i've read here on the forum, that the QEY8 should work on a Asus rampage V with an older bios. So i gave the rampage bios a shot and just flashed it on my Asus X99 Deluxe. I mean what could go wrong?! Now i get halfway through the initialization Q-Codes and get stuck on code b0 (Runtime Set Virtual Address MAP Begin). I hoped that i get halfarsed to a post screen with the wrong bios... But it seems to work a little bit, without RAM i end back up at code 53 and with a newer rampage Bios Version and RAM installed i get back to code 55. But i have no idea what causes the initialization issues between the older and newer bios versions. If i knew i could try to switch out the responsible Bios modules from the real X99 Deluxe bios.
Had any luck with your QEY8?

Hi all, i have a question, is the E7-8890 V4 ES compatible with supermicro x10qbl-4?
Maybe someone have tested it, thanks

@scraper sadly not.
Either it got stuck at b0 or went to 5X after b0, indicating a dead Memory Controller.
I have heard from someone else with two of those who behave identical.

My theory is that those cpus have reached the end of their life and i can't recommend buying one of them, even if they are advertised as working.

Boards used for testing:
Supermicro X10SRL-F, X10DRi(-F).
Asus Z10PA D8
Fujitsu D3348 B2X
ASRACK EPC612D8A

Ram for testing was a known good 8Gb Reg EEC dimm and on the D3348 i tried a Gskill UDimm.
Same Results.

I recently bought a used msi x99a godlike gaming and 1680v3. Holy crap this chip can overclock. 4.3ghz currently @1.2v on air cooling. Waiting for waterblock to use my ek phoenix. I think I might be able to get 4.8ghz of of this chip.

Hello there,

Thank you for the thread, very informative :) I wanted to get an X99 mother board and wait for cheap xeons coming but I wasn't patient enough :p So I picked:

MSI X99 GAMING PRO for 100€
2*4 GB ECC REG DDR4 for 20€
XEON 1650v3 ES for 150€

I will receive the xeon in 2/3 weeks and can make some tests then. It is a QEZ0, bought from armyourdesk on ebay. Does anyone knows if that is a good pick ? The CPU-Z screenshot indicates Model F and stepping 1. I looked at cpu-world but couldn't get any clue. The same QZE0 type is also on sale on Aliexpress and there is another screenshot from HWInfo which indicates it is an ES2 and the stepping is L0. I read somewhere in the thread that ES2 was generally ok to use. So what do you think about this build and this ES cpu ? Is it fine or am I running for troubles ?
I finally did my built today. My first cooler was not good so I got a big Ninja 4 cooler. It was very long but in case you are interested the CPU looks ok.

Temps:
Temps are 40°c idle and 60°c full load on the test bench.

Performance with 2133mhz. ram:
Cinebench R15 score is 968 points.
Firestrike is 10628 points with a GTX 1060.

Only problem is that the "turbo" was green on the screenshot provided by armyourdesk while it's red with mine. The motherboard says turbo is "n/a". After activating the turbo in the bios the CPU is running at 3.5Ghz and the cinebench score is 1033 points.

AIDA64 says the max multiplier for 6 cores is 35x.

The good news is that MSI is compatible with ECC REG memory.http://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/e1110...m=173027816112&ssPageName=ADME:L:COSI:FR:1123

If there any other test you would like me to run ?

Had any luck with your QEY8?
Nope, i've send it to ragebone for further testing and it didn't work.

And big shoutout to RageBone, for testing my dead Xeon on his wide variety of C612 Mainboards! Thanks for your effort.

I bought a QEYP 12 Core and wanted to OC it with the Microcode glitch. But i didnt pay attention that the ES CPUs with a 0 stepping use a different microcode than the regular ones, so that didn't work either. And adding up to my badluck streak my X99 Deluxe died yesterday to an issue where it's stuck at a POST. The only solution seems to be an RMA, which is not possible with my old ebay board.

I bought a "cheap" Supermicro H11SSL-I yesterday, maybe i can afford the Epyc CPU for the board after selling my Xeon ES CPUs and my old HP DL580 G7. (The Epyc 7401 24core is currently at 577€ at amazon UK )

@Riok the retail 1650V3 is "fully unlocked" meaning, you can set ram frequency as you like, core and i think turbo multipliers.
Used mine for overclocking with some 3200Mhz Gskill Ram on an Asus Rampage V Extreme with a custom water loop and 4.9Ghz for "records" and 4.3 for a lazy daily OC, so not the maximum that'd be possible for daily use.

How far is your ES locked / unlocked?

Cinbench R15 on mine was somewhere around 1200. Kind of cool that Ryzen is head to head with Haswell, had it head to head with a R5 1600.
