Would this be a worthwile upgrade from either a pair of E5-2640 V1s, or a pair of E5-2660 V1s?

I've been thinking about upgrading two of my boxes, but haven't pulled the trigger.

depends on what you're doing. if the machine is mostly idle, then no. but v2 usually gets you more cores, and slightly less energy consumption under load compared to equivalent v1.

Hugely faster multicore speed when you upgrade to 2670 v2 compared to 2640 or 2660 v1. also better power consumption....

Sadly these are nowhere near a deal as the e5 2695v2s...
Yeah, that was one awesome deal! don't think we will see one like that for a while.... i am actually hoping that there will be substantial decrease in other cpu price soon. TR 1950X at $410 was pretty good recently...
