400ft new fiber run thoughts?

I'm replacing some OM1 fiber with new fiber, between ICX6610's to stack at 40Gig.
Plan is to get some preterminated fiber with pull ends, and run it thru the existing conduit. I have 3 options: there will be 2 different lines run for redundancy

1. MTP (cheap transceivers, expensive OM4 fiber, 12 fibers needed per run, and no extra fibers)
2. BiDi (expensive transceivers, medium expense OM4 fiber, only 2 needed per run )
3. LR4 (expensive transceivers, cheapest fiber, but less forgiving of fiber bends and such)

Cost wise they all end up fairly close. My instinct is SMF, except for the fragility.

Thoughts?

I'd think about what you'll use for 100g and pull that once for 40 now then when you upgrade you won't have to re pull.

if you don't want to run it again, use SMF. if you don't care if you have to rerun in future, use whatever. an SMF fiber bundle should be fine with 1.5-2" bend radius--how tight is the conduit?

+1 for SM.

I wont be running MM again on much more than tops 50m, if i get to Call it that is. Yes, optics are more expensive, but its leveling out and the futureproofing of a SM run just beats it..

Yeah, SMF it is. I was shocked at how much cheaper SMF cable is, and I ebayed optics that work perfect. Thanks for validating my gut instinct.

SMF for distance, anything short range MMF is still great, Cisco at least pushed hard to get 40G BiDi and then 100G BiDi in general use and now the 40/100BiDi SFP are cheaper than the 40G only.

SMF fiber cost is nearly half though. If I actually had OM4 there it would have been a no brainer.

I'm still a bit nervous long term because of the heat: (From brocade)

To achieve maximum stacking distance, these ICX 7750 models must use Brocade LR4 fiber optics. LR4 optics require high-power operating mode and an advanced thermal profile to control the fan cooling system. As a result, LR4 optics can be used for stacking only on specific ICX 7750 ports: 1/2/5 and 1/2/6 on module 2 (front panel). Before one of these ports can be used for long-distance stacking, it must first be configured as a default stacking port using the default-ports command.
