Hey all, trying to swap a Intel Scalable 3647 LGA proc that I have mated to a Dynatron B5 heatsink. How in the heck do I do this, first time noobie here on a replacement for scalable. I ran it good n hot w/ a CentOS VM running stress and all cores assigned for a couple hours then shutdown system thinking I could just gentle lift clips/press up but it seems to be tougher than that, cant get compound to break seal. Should the proc unclip/be taken out first or carrier and all and THEN pop out/replace proc?

Also any tips of heatsink compound application I would greatly appreciate, not a whole lot out there for this on LGS3647 that I can find, maybe it's as simple as make your 'BB pellet sized dab on 2011' is close enough but just put more (2-3x's more). Any strategies/best practices arnd this are again appreciated.

QUICK, proc is cooling down haha

TIA, whitey

TIM breaker.

Processors die 99999 of 100000 times due to user error... sounds like that may be the problem here.

I have been very gentle and installation went smoothly, just dont wanna get rough with this proc on replacement procedure.

I'll look into TIM breaker

Any tips on heatsink compound re-apply, patterns, tips/tricks welcomed.

EDIT: Got the proc off that was easy enough after knowing 'the trick'/slot to gently rock on.

@K D, like a Z maybe 1/2 inch in size square/arnd across the heatsink centered? Trying to visualize.

HardOCP has some videos on Threadripper/Epyc TIM application, I think hes swapped them like 1000 times by now. Similar size and concept, both are giant LGA chips with big core(s) under the heatspreader, and both can put out serious heat.

Ohh snap I really like the 5 dot method/pattern like a 5 pattern on a dice.

System has been up and running for an hour or so, time to let it cook and ensure the node is stable.

Thx all!
