I have been looking at old 4 Bay Raid boxes for A/V and thinking; cheap, quiet, enough bandwidth for gigabit ethernet with esata. Stick in 4 8TB drives and RAID 5. (24TB of reasonably stable storage) ... something like this..

This has me looking around for a similar; cheap 2U jbod, short depth enclosure that I could plug into a 1U itx server and FreeNAS with ZFS and call it a proper solution.

Is there such a thing? Seems like there should be some such enclosure for AV folk but I don't know what to call it. My usual google fu is mostly bringing up old enterprise rack gear that is going to be to long and too loud for my home rack.

Thanks,
Robert.

I will watch this thread with great interest, since I have been looking for a short depth 2U x3.5" drive case for my NAS. Don't even need redundant power supply, single would be perfect for my home use.
