Does anyone have any concrete answers what's the deal with the 900P --> 905? No 2nd Gen P4800X either? Is one due?

Anyone think they changed the 900P to 905P and simply removed PLP? Not everyone with the P4800X uses it as memory/extension vs. cache drive/etc...

Maybe I'm over thinking it but the 900P was replaced rather rapidly with a new drive that's identical?

I'm using over half dozen 900Ps, but as storage devices, thinking the P4800X may be the best choice for the cache drive since it does have the Enterprise features, not sure it justifies the slight price increase.

Optane drives do not have onboard RAM chips.
Thanks, do you have confirmation the firmware of the 900P vs 4800X doesn't have more restrictions though too? That's my main concern when using the 900P as a cache drive vs. mirrored storage. *or new 905p vs 900p for that matter*

I think that you are overthinking it in relation to the “2nd gen”. It looks like the 905P was just a refinement to steal thunder from Samsung’s announcement of Z-NAND. On a side note, I’ve been actively trying to corrupt data on my ZFS mirrored 900Ps for a week including pulling the power cord during a heavy write without success. I don’t see much of a market for the P4800x at current pricing except for the write endurance.
