Has the price on the T1700G-28TQ jumped up recently? I was looked at it a couple of months ago and I would swear it was going for about $350 CAD, but now I can't find it anywhere for less than $500 CAD.

I'm not sure if I happened to miss out on a really great deal, if I mistakenly took note of the price in USD rather than CAD, or if there's a blip in the price and I should wait a bit to see if it'll go back down again.

Amazon had it for <400$ CAD until a week or two ago. Then it went up to 500$

I'm assuming by "unmanaged" they mean it doesn't even have a web interface? Seems expensive compared to the Ubiquiti if it doesn't.
it's also dual type ports though. 10G switches that take RJ45 terminated cabling have always been expensive in comparison to their other counterparts.

Is there a switch that has 4 ports RJ45 10GBe with 4 ports SFP+ as well? Doesn't have to be silent, but quiet would be a plus.

So far i see the following:
Qnap: QSW-1208-8C
Ubiquiti: us-16-xg
MikroTik: CRS312-4C+8XG (not available yet?)

The alternative would be to buy a T1700G-28TQ and find a RJ45 switch with RJ45 10GBe with an SFP+ uplink.

You can get 8+8 in a Cisco SG500XG-8F8T ?;) O/C that one is not sub 500 ...

@OP: I'd go with the UBNT ES-16-XG, depending on what the copper-port devices you're connecting are (some NICs still have occasional issues with connecting to the XG's 10GbaseT ports). That, or wait for the CRS312-4C+8XG - it shouldn't be long, but might be a few months. Will this be your core switch, or will it need uplinks to a core?

How about a CRS317-1G-16S+RM with a bunch of S+RJ10 ? Much more flexible.
And slightly more expensive - Each S+RJ10 is US$50, even from EuroDK.

Prices via EuroDK:
CRS317-1G-16S+RM: US$315
S+RJ10: US$51/ea, x4, total US$202
Total US$517

ES-16-XG: US$479, includes 4x copper ports.

The question is really twofold - do you want inter-VLAN routing (which the ES-16-XG does at wirespeed according to UBNT support & a few end-users, but the CRS317 won't exceed 1Gbps at for the moment), and are you likely to connect more copper-port devices in future or more SFP+-port devices?

If you're likely to end up with more 10GBase-T devices, go with waiting for the CRS312-4C+8XG.
If you're likely to end up with more SFP+ devices, or if MikroTik's configuration system/UI confuses you, go the EdgeSwitch.

Anyone seen that Mikrotik that sth had the article on a few weeks or months ago? 12 or 16 port? I haven't seen anything like it at resellers

Still coming ‘soon’ it seems...
There really is a switch that seems to be just missing...

10G of about 8-16 ports, managed, L3 at full performance, fanless, low power. PoE+ option would be nice as well.

There is 10G and fanless and even reasonably low power but without good management and L3 performance.
A quality 1G switch doing L3 inter vlan routing will our perform some of the cheap 10G solutions like MikroTik.

Thanks for the replies guys.

I've done more digging with the Ubiquiti switches and they seem to have stability issues? Plus the review servethehome did on the ES model has me skeptical about build. Besides the management options for the ES vs US-16-XG, does the US-16-XG support web gui configuration at all?

The Netgear XS512EM is an interesting switch as well, out of the budget but multi-gigabit support though only 2 sfp+ ports.

CR312 4C+8XG is definitely an interesting switch, but is there a release date time line for it? How reliable are Microtik? I only heard of them after the whole Russian router hack.

They fixed the US-16-XG platform wrt 10 GBase-T links. They're now on to board revision 13 (launch was 4).

US-16-XG is configured by Unifi controller web gui.

So their 10G copper has had all their issues fixed? Is there a link for compatible cards?

Dumb question, but that does require a HW device? Such as the Cloud Key?

The thing that throws me off about Ubiquiti is their warranty of a year. The HP switch (HP Procurve 1410-16G ) i just swapped out had a lifetime warranty.

Yes 10G copper all resolved now and older units are covered by warranty. I am connecting mine to a different switch XS708T, and also to my Xeon-D boards.

You can run the controller in a VM or on a Pi, or you can buy the Cloudkey.

Warranty is short but if it's a design defect that affects a large number of units you can probably swing a replacement device if you ask very nicely.

EDIT: Both mentioned in another thread: 10gbe copper switch

Netgear GS110MX (unmanaged)

Netgear GS110EMX (web managed)
Note: Prices are converted from SEK to US Dollar, and include Swedish VAT. Prices may be lower elsewhere. Both 10GBit ports also support 2,5Gbit and 5Gbit.
