I will get these. What PCIe card supports this type of SFP? Also I will buy two of them for a direct server to server connection for high speed data transfer. Do you think that setup will work?

does this cable have QSFP's on each end?

QSFP 40G QSFP+ Active Optical Cable 15 meter | eBay

I'm thinking about going to 40gigE instead because it looks like the 100GigE takes up a x16 PCIe slot, while the 40gigE take a x8 slot. But I'm so confused about the SFPs and QSFP and the QSFP+ and the optical cables vs copper cables and if those cables have SFPs on each end or if I need to buy them seperate.

QSFP+ should work with QSFP and that cable should be fine for CX3's (QSFP based ones)

Does anyone know if these happen to work in a Dell Z9100-ON

If so maybe I pick up a few for the lab.

I'm not crazy right, but those are CXP transceivers in OP right? Which don't fit QSFP ports?

In which case, no they probably wouldn't work in a Z9100. They might work in the S6100 with the CXP card, but as the Z9100 I was working with tossed a calf with HP branded Amphenol QSFP28 DACs and restricted them to 40G speeds, I wouldn't count on it either.

I thought I was having one of those exact days with all the discussion going on in this thread about qsfp cables and the like. Glad to see I'm not alone.

So anyone got these and used them in a Dell switch maybe? Or other non Avago?

And I should be able to use CXP on one side and QSFP28 on the other side, with OM3 cables ?
Little experience with these, but actually snatched a S6100-ON with the CXP module and look to expand on my connectivity options;)

I doubt that would work, but I'm not familiar with CXP. From what I just read, CXP transceivers have 12 bidir channels @ 10Gbps each, while qsfp28 is 4 transmit + 4 receive.

Hm you might be correct.

Difference Between CFP Module and CXP Module
100G CFP and QSFP28 Modules’ Functional Mode Comparison - Fiber Transceiver Solution

CXP seems to be 12x10, CFP 10x10 and QSFP28 4x25 as you said...
Anyone knows of a CXP NIC?;)
Or is switch interconnect the only applicable usage? @Myth maybe?

Can 100G QSFP interfaces interoperate with SR10 based 100GbE?
No.
The 100G QSFP form factor has just 4 electrical lanes, which is not enough to support 10 lanes of 10G electrical interface. A 100G QSFP can only support a 4x10G or 4x25G electrical interface, which can be used as 4x10GbE or 4x25GbE, but not 10x 10GbE.As a result the 100G QSFP SR4 cannot interoperate with SR10 based 100GbE transceivers. A complex design with a reverse gearbox (4x25G to 10x10G) can achieve this but results in expensive and power hungry optics
