Similar to an good deal posting earlier today: this eBay listing offers 10x SM 2U chassis, each chassis containing 2x 2-processor bare-bones nodes and a X9DRT-HF motherboard.

Lot 10 SuperMicro 2-Node 2u Servers w/ X9DRT-HF Motherboards,2x PSU,12x 3.5" Bay | eBay

A difference between this listing and the other listing is that this listing has a PCIe riser with 3X slots. I find that appealing for using multiple dual NICs and a HBA.

Although the listing is 3599 (plus 325 shipping for 10x units), seller accepted BO of 3000. He listed another 10x right after accepting BO ... FYI.

Edit: rails included; 2x platinum SQ power supplies

This one has only 8 memory slots, the previous one had 16.
Agreed - should have pointed that out so thanks.

My use case is for Ceph nodes so my memory needs are modest and I preferred having more PCIe slots over more memory slots.

But, others may be more concerned about # of slots.

how much noise do these type of machines make?
I have 3 of these (6 nodes) in my bedroom and the noise isn't bad at all once I upgraded the IPMI firmware to latest available and set fans to "Optimized" mode, where they run at 30% instead of 50% under load. Noise doesn't bother me at all, even while sleeping. They're definitely audible though.

Update on this listing: received my units today and they are in near-mint condition exactly as advertised.
