latency matters, especially with fast block times. If you have 200 ms latency on an average block time of 20s, you are going to lose 1% of your found blocks to slow propagation (orphans/uncles).

if you are running a million dollar operation you would probably run your own full node (I would hope!) and have no miner bandwidth at all, just node bandwidth, but every millisecond of extra latency would theoretically cost you hundreds of dollars in profit.
