Yeah, that's a bit of a bummer, but in general, with SAS 2308 and 10gbe onboard, there's very little that needs to be added, generally speaking. 2308 based HBAs go for ~$20/ea and so do Mellanox ConnextX-3s. That's $40 just for these. And the heatsinks are probably $10 each. The motherboard is FREE!! :D. Just kidding. But, it uses standard PSUs, has IPMI, and no funky connectors.

I did buy a few to play around with.
I'm curious. which SAS 2308 HBA are 20$ish.

Was a great find. I took a chance and made an offer, but all the boards were sold out before the seller reviewed my offer. Missed out!
If it's already a screaming deal, I never mess around with submitting an offer for that very reason.

external adapters are typically cheaper than internal adapters.
True. But, while searching for these, the internal ones weren't a whole lot more expensive. But yes, they pop up that cheap only now and then.

I’m interested in one also if anyone is going to resell any extras they may have. Just made it too late to the party....

Has anyone already received a motherboard?
I want to know the configuration to choose the appropriate enclosure. Maybe a photo?
Thanks!

Mine are still in transit...

Here's a high-res picture, if you need to do some planning.

Got my boards today and opened the packaging on the first one, removed the heatsinks to install cpus, and ... there are bits of crumbly thermal paste all throughout those delicate little lga 2011 socket pins. I'm not sure what to do. Any suggestions - vacuum, compressed air, pick them out with a needle? Have others had this problem.

I really wish they had cleaned the heatsinks before screwing them back on to the sockets.

Major pet peeve of mine that thankfully doesn't happen too often. I usually use compressed air if possible since grabbing the pieces is tough because they're still soft and will squish.

In the past I've used q tips dipped in isopropyl alcohol(99 percent) and then VERY lightly and very gently kind of dabbed and brushed in the direction of the pins. Hasnt failed me yet.
