I think the intel core i9 beats the threadripper in efficiency h/w , intel has put the xeons gold and platinum in a consumer package to screw up amd , intel was not joking and there is some nasty leaps of technology embedded in the core i9 still to be revealed if the algorithms in mining evolves . I have been running the cpu (7940x) for 1 straight month with an average cooler( no liquid ) and the temperature stays at 60c with 900h/s . and the power consumption eats 10% from the income of mining . that is a xeon working here ladies and gentlemen :) . I just wish to find someone who dared to mine with the 7980xe (18 core, 25mb l3,18mb l2 ) and tell me how his system is performing . also the reselling of those core i9 specially the 7940x,7960x,7980xe ,,, 1400$,1700$,2000$ will be a breaze to sell on ebay after 1 or 2 years

How many watt for the whole system from wall? <80W?

Does it really matter with insane few years ROI?
I just curious why the electricity cost is just 10% of mining profit.
I am at 30% and want to learn more. So it is matter to me but not to every people in the planet.

why few years ??? I have the core i9 7940x and 2 gtx 1060 , the system costed me 2400$ ,with 8$ / day after electricity . do the math . plus you can resell that mighty processor after 1 or 2 years with at least 60 or 70% of its initial value

I have 2 1060s , I am speaking about the processor alone , after I done the math with my latest electricity bill , that processor is behaving exactly like a xeon gold in its efficiency (((( as long as you don't overclock it above 4.1 ghz ))))) because I have tried higher and the efficiency starts to tumble plus you don't want to strain the cpu with high temps for a straight couple of years :) . 4.1 ghz is just the optimal

I wouldn't be so sure. Intel's been complacent for a number of years since there was no competition. There was little change from generation to generation which likely stabilized the prices somewhat; i.e., why buy a new v4 Xeon for $3K when a v3 isn't too far behind performance-wise at $2.5K? But now AMD has lit up a fire under Intel's ass and they will have to move more aggressively which may cause faster depreciation on older gen SKUs...

@sharpnel

You are a genius , I learn from you to disable unused cores , from 8 cores to 6 cores (2 cores per socket disabled)
Took me a reboot and reconfigure BIOS , Now my dual E5-2450L rig is using 18w less power from 141w down to 126w.
I'll spend more time to tune my mining rig later today.
A quick reboot to disable cores save me 15w = more $$$$

Thanks
Can you tell me how much are you mining on your dual e5-2450l setup?

About 13o to 145W for the CPU (TDP is 150W) I guess its quite reasonable no?

The entire system (2CPU + 1080 ti) pulls around 700W when mining
Where are you getting the per-CPU power consumption? HWMonitor or something similar? Seems to be fairly accurate in this case, but I've also seen it report some wacky numbers before.

From my UPS reporting software. Since the XEONS cannot be overclocked, it shouldn't exceed 150W TDP.

Although that does bring up a question. Which is better in the long run supportxmr at PPLNS at 0.6% fee, or dwarfpool RBPPS at 1.5% ?
