Opinions on Hitachi Desktar NAS Drives

The HGST Deskstar NAS are very reliable, if a bit pricey. I have used the 2tb, 4tb, and recently switched to the 8TB - about 60 drives in all over last 8yrs. Use case is home NAS 24/7 and backups. Only failure due to HDD being dropped due to careless handling.

I have 12 of the 6tb drives in my fileserver, great drives.

But nowadays with the different ssd caching mechanisms I would rather use wd red drives (5400 rpm).

Ya it's kind of crazy how much more power/heat and sound/vibration you get from 7200 drives!

The up side to that, is that it is really obvious when they are not running
There's no doubting that they are great disks though
