I finally received the CPU and had a chance to install it in my new system using the SuperMicro X10DAX motherboard. Unfortunately Windows 10 Pro is experiencing random and frequent BSOD with varying error messages such as whea uncorrectable error, irql_not_less_or_equal, kernel mode trap, KMODE_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED.

I am using Crucial ECC ram that is compatible with the board, along with a Seasonic 1000W Titanium PSU. I also tried running the system in single CPU mode to try isolate the problem and the BSOD persists....any ideas?

The CPU steppings are:

CPU1 - SR2J0 (reading this off the headspreader)
CPU2 - Revision B00001B, Stepping 1, Model 4F CPU Family 6

UPDATE: ALL PROBLEM RESOLVED WOOOOHOOOOO!

Almost gave up and decided to plea for help online and an ex-lieutenant from the US Navy nuclear forces on anandtech saved my sorry butt. On a late Friday evening, he looked every every screenshot of my bios settings and told me to change two obscure XEON specific power saving features and it magically cleared up ALL my problems.

The following two are disabled on the BIOS:

- Disable C6 State Reporting
- Disable Spread Spectrum

I have Supermicro DAX board with dual E5-2666 v3 QFSC cpu. The system is doing XMR mining now.

How long before Windows 10 BSOD?
Do you know how to reproduce the Windows BSOD?

I actually had met a problem yesterday trying to install E5-2696v4 on my X10DRI-T serverboard. It turned out that the board didn’t recognise the CPUs even though the BIOS has been updated. I swapped the CPUs with E5-2683v3 CPU and it worked perfectly. I am not sure if this means the x10DRI-t doesn’t support OEM CPUs.

Guys - thanks all for the quick replies! The system will BSOD whenever CPU intensive task are executed such as cinebench, or adobe media encoder. The problem persists regardless with the number of RAM sticks populated.

I have another X10SRL-F system running the E5 2696 V3 CPU with zero problems at all so I don't think its a CPU compatibility issue?

I could boot windows 10 with my system with E5-2666 v3 QFSC.
I do not have adobe media encoder.

How many times to run Cinebenc for the system to BSOD?
Could you try to run Prime95 to see if it BSOD?

I am pretty sure that I ran Prime95 overnight when I build my system.

Cinebench might BSOD in the first run, or the third run and is pretty random. When doing video encoding it will ALWAYS BSOD halfway through. I am running using single CPU now to try isolate the problem but so far the BSOD is happening on both CPUs :(

I'll be back after I ran some CinBench test.
Could you try Prime95 as well?

Supermicro X10DAX with dual E5-2666 v3 QFSC CPU , Windows 10

I ran over 10 times of Cinebench R15 ( latest version ) score are between 2377 to 2390

My system had been stable while mining Monero with Ubuntu 16.0.4 for past few weeks.

I'm running 2696V3s on X10DAX and it's rock stable. What version is the bios? I believe 2.0a is needed to support V4s. Also is the board brand new or an open box? Maybe contact SM and discuss RMA of the board? I've mixed steppings on Westmere and Nehalem and had no ill effects. But that's just anecdotal.

I am running the latest BIOS version R2.0b.

Another Update:
I downloaded a copy of Ultimate boot CD - Ultimate Boot CD - Overview and ran the CPU Burn In overnight and the system did not crash - CPU Burn-in Homepage

Not sure if this burn in test can max out all the cores but at least its a good sign that the CPU is okay.

Update, My X10DAX with Windows 10 , ran Prime95 overnight 11hrs 30min , still kicking.
You could ruled out Windows 10 funny business with X10DAX.

Thanks Marsh for the reply - I guess at this stage the funny business is on the motherboard?

The X10DAX is touted by SM as having "Hyper-Speed," which looks like dynamic BCLK overclocking feature, above what the processor provides.

When trying to narrow down processor stability, is there a way to turn off this feature?

I have all these features turned off so the CPU runs at stock.
