Working SFP+ Optics
  • Intel AFBR-703DZ-IN2
  • Myricom 10G-SFP-SR
Working DACs
  • Cisco SFP-H10GB-CU5M
  • Dell 2CM32 (3m)
  • Dell 337MK (5m)

Power Consumption
Measured using a UK kill a watt meter as shown in the attached photo. I'm sure someone will come along and do a better test than this.

All tests are run with no traffic.

RouterOS - no ports connected, fans not running - 18.2w

SwitchOS - no ports connected, fans not running - 14.2w
SwitchOS - 1x 5M DAC connected, fans not running - 14.7w
SwitchOS - 2x 5M DAC connected, fans not running - 14.8w
SwitchOS - 2x 5M DAC connected + 1x 3M DAC, fans not running - 14.9w
SwitchOS - 1x SFP+ optic, fans not running - 15.3w
SwitchOS - 2x SFP+ optics, fans not running - 16.2w
SwitchOS - 4x DAC, 2x SFP+ optics, fans not running - 17.2w

Are we able to keep the primary post updated with a list of working optics/DACs?

Yeah I'm not sure what it is just yet.

Purchased another Intel X520-DA2 card and some more DAC leads on eBay earlier to throw into my test box and test properly. The main machine which I was testing from is always under some sort of load so could have had some impact on results!

Guess it's possible, but I have never had any issue with performance with this particular model going through the following
X520-DA2 > Dell 5524 > X520-DA2
X520-DA2 > Dell 8024F > X520-DA2

Just want to eliminate any possibility of other workloads on the server and potential overheads with ESXi with two bare metal boxes! Only seems fair that way :)

Yup, I just ran Iperf between my esxi and freenas servers, can't really get more bare metal than that.

Anyone knows whether it supports stacking or neighbour discovery (CDP/LLDP) - Don't think so from the wiki but maybe I missed something?
Anyone tried SFP(+) to 1GB Transceivers yet? :)

AFAIK it only supports Mikrotik's own discovery protocol :(

I just took some random SMF 1G transcievers and put one in my HP switch and the other in the CRS317, seems to link up perfect.

Mikrotik reports them as PeakOptical...

FYI: the switch doesn't recognice 10/1G dualmode transcievers (FTLX1471D3BCV-IT) when it tries to link 1G.

Been a while since I looked into LACP. On Ubuntu is it possible to do 2x10Gb connections direct to another box?

Want to do some benchmarks though the switch as my additional PCIe card arrived today.

Yes, it is possible (and more). But you need to understand LACP. LACP will do 'load balancing' based on IP or MAC address. NOT on TCP port. This means, slightly simplified, that LACP will not be of much use for your load test. Why? Unless you spread out over multiple MAC addresses, LACP will not help you, as you will not be able to saturate more than 1 member of a LACP link group at a time. LACP is good for many to many or many to 1, and 1 to many, but not for 1 to 1.
You would need to use at least 2 server processes, all on separate MAC addresses, for LACP to be useful. But when you have that, you would not need LACP anyway, you could do it with 2 individual links per server.

Ah! Scary how quickly you forget these things when you don't use them for a few months/years!

Thanks

Nice switch :) I read the tread and assume that it work at 1G with normal tranceivers... Am i right ?
