Not a fan of Gigabyte motherboards personally — eagerly waiting for the reviews after the official release (Aug 10).

LOL. For $1100-1200 I'd better take pair E5 2683 V3 + Asus Z10PE-D8 WS.
Total 28cores @3Ghz each (using turbo PMU exploit)
Thats almost similar cinebench score with lower clock speeds, more TDP, less pci lanes and a couple of generation old used cpus without few years warranty that comes with ryzen.

Dual e5 2683v3 sustem will be on ~30% cheaper
P.S.: Warranty on CPU??? Do you really need it?

Comparing new vs old, single socket vs dual, does not make that much sense.
We can easily scale this comparison up to HP SL servers with 16 E5 2650 processors in the same price range, and you can get way more combined performance from that monster.

Chill out. I just compare prices. you can buy whatever you want.
After new CPU reaches markets I'll be happy to see price drop on some old generations CPUs

BTW I'm not saying a pair of used 2683v3 is a bad choice. It's actually pretty good. But I can imagine this thread is for those who'd like to have a new computer. It's like choosing cars. A 5 year old Japanese car is reliable and cost-effective, but some people may want a new car. I won't LOL on them at least.

Well, if we are doing the comparison to cars it is like buying a 911 C4S 5 years old or a new loaded Miata.

The E5-2683 V3 was a $1800+ chip and two of them sell now less than a Threadripper. You have more maintenance (power), but you are getting a different kind of platform.

You are also supporting a pretty anti-consumer brand.
Last year you had to pay $2000 for a 10 core cpu and ~$1000 for an 8 core cpu. And to think that with coffee lake, which gets announced in a couple of weeks, you will have quad core i3's and 6 core i5's..

Competition is a great thing and I hope people think about this part as well. It's about saving yourself a lot more money.

BTW Dual e5 2683v3 @3Ghz all cores pushes ~ 4100-4150cb
while Threadripper 1950x pushes about 3050cb

@cactus I miss my old 2007 Cayman S. That was an awesome car. I had a clear engine cover which was great for adding a bit more fun. Not so good for conference calls.

And if I were getting a used 911, 996 Turbo.
