Still $1100 for 16port 10GbT switch.

Is there anything cheaper that doesn't sound like a hurricane in the 10GbT market?

I have heard a demo of this switch. Any equipment around my desk I am very sensitive to. This I could put on my desk.

Bit confusing by netgear that the xs708e is 'v2' and the xs716e is just that.
Internals look vastly better than the earlier versions.

Fanless would have been nice but anyway...

20W idle is utterly awesome for a power house like this.

I wish they'd release a new 8-port version with this cooling tech.
I think the 8 port 'v2' is updated, not sure about internals but has a spec sheet comparing to 'v1'
Yes 8 port maybe the way to go, just link to a 1G switch for everything not needing 10g

Now all we need is some decent 10GB-T NICs that don't draw 100W.
Well they will all draw 5-10 for sure and that's the best intel ones, these days so many on SoC or onboard from intel is helping bring down the power draw.
But the limitations of copper will always remain, will always use more than fiber.

The new 8 port v2 makes more noise than the 16 port per Netgear specs..

Yes I saw that with only 1 fan but I do think from what I read the switch is the v2 logic.
I could ask netgear but I am not sure I want any switch with a fan...
