Dont know if this is a GREAT Deal but i bought one, I have seen a few others a little bit more pricer on ebay as well but hell for a JBOD unit cant complain, gonna see what its like in a teardown to see if i can make it quiet and how far i can take the system.

This guy has a 24x2.5 JBOD Array for 150/Shipped on BIN on ebay, comes with Controllers/PSUs/and Trays... I know there have been a lot of asks for JBOD based units and this one seemed to fit the bill for those wanting to do all SSD/SAS based types...

Fun part are the dimensions...
2U 19.5 Inch Depth... which isn't too bad comparing to most cases at 24 inches like my Norco 4224..

Dimensions: 3.5 in. H x 17.6 in. W x 19.5 in. D (8.9 cm H x 44.7 cm W x 49.53 cm D)

Newisys is quality stuff.
They build the DataON gear, they also built the LSI 620J.
IIRC, they also build some stuff for SuperMicro (I think I read that somewhere)

Interesting Chassis. I've been considering building an all 2.5" HDD server. I don't see anywhere in the specs what size (thickness wise) 2.5" drives can fit in the drive bays. I assume they'll fit full thickness 15mm drives?

Keep in mind that SATA is 3Gb/s max! For SSDs Not The best thing. Thought of an all SSD Chassis..

That chassis looks nearly identical to an Intel R2000WTXXX... excluding the rear face plate, it would initially appear to be an exact match.

Edit- Maybe not exact, but REALLY close.

Since when? The spec sheet on the controller is SAS 2.0:

Disk Drives • 24 independent 600MB/s point-to-point connections to each SAS or SATA disk drive with dual-port access and failover by each I/O controller to each drive (SATA drive requires optional 2:1 Active MUX) • Form factor: 2.5” SAS, SATA and SSD drives • Rotational speed: 7200 RPM, 10K RPM and 15K RPM • Interface: 6Gb/3Gb SAS; 3Gb/1.5Gb SATA

3Gb/1.5Gb SATA

For SATA it only supports up to SATA-II at 3 Gb/s, not SATA-III. I wish it did though!

I've seen this kind of lower SATA rates with HP's or Dell's RAID controllers. Can't remember which now. Mostly in some older server > 6 years IIRC.
While providing 6gbit/s for SAS, they only provide 3gbit/s for SATA.

Good catch. I did not realize that. Very bizarre.

I Believe The p410 is The 6Gb SAS, 3Gb SATA Controller.. Had one in my old DL380 G7.

Good that i use ZFS and HBAs only now :)

Fyi I got it and fits 15mm drives like a champ. Runs about 40-50db with both PSUs working but theres no high pitches... with 1 PSU fan spikes up to 60Db again no high pitch that i can sense just lots of fan movement. That was my phone right on top of the unit with Sound Meter pointing to the back of the unit.
