I am not aware of the "unlock key" being any different than the well documented bash commands.

I recently picked up one of the Arista 7050QXs and have a couple of questions. Since this is my first run with 40Gb stick with me!

I tried to find in the manual how to configure the ports for fan out (40Gbe -> 4x10Gbe) and I can't find much on it. I assume some configuration is needed, but can't find the commands for it. Is this something that is handled by the switch itself or will it need to be configured?

Second question is, can you connect the fanout 10Gbe connections to devices or are they for links to other switches only?

Thanks in advance!

To set the default behavior:
transceiver qsfp default-mode 4x10G

To then convert an individual port back to 40G:
interface Ethernet 49/1
speed forced 40gfull

Fan out connections can be connected to another switch or an end device.

Hmm so default they are set to 4x10 and need to be configured to 40g via
interface Ethernet 32/1
speed forced 40gfull

Hmm want to shoot me an e-mail? I can see if I have a local cached version.

I'm trying to score one of these on the cheap- eBay seems flush right now.

Has anyone noticed any crash problems? My current 10g+40g switch from 'edge core' reboots about every two weeks

They're getting dumped because you can't get new FW for them. They've also got Rangeley CPUs in them so they're time bombs and you aren't getting Arista to replace the CPU on a second hand switch that is EOL.

I wouldn't worry using these switches for a homelab. They were stable enough for enterprises/datacenters (firmware) and the atom c2000 bug is often exaggerated (see The Intel Atom C2000 Series Bug - Why it is so quiet).
That bug is not something I ever read up on since I never had anything affected by it. After reading some other threads, agreed, at the right price it would be a cool toy with the odds pretty low that bug might ever effect me.

Anyone comment on sound compared to a LB6M?

i read a forum post elsewhere that someone was having trouble tricking the switch into enabling unsupported transceivers by editing XcvrAgent in a newer version of the firmware. happily, with EOS-4.14.6M i had no such trouble and this switch is ready to party down with some cheap cables.

Nice, thanks for posting this. I just snagged one of these and am looking forward to playing. This will be useful.

Probably it was me

Is that copper cable? It's working ( I'm using 40g - 40g and 40g -> 4x 10 GE) but for me optical ones (cables) and QSFP was not working (I bought QSFP from fs.com)

Only problem that 5m copper cables are thick..

I didn't heard lb6m but mine in rack is "normal"..nothing special
As an update to my question on noise, and for any potential buyers. I just got mine today and I was really surprised at how quiet this thing is. I would venture to guess it is about half as loud as the lb6m.

Mine came with 4.14.5FX.3-2517203. I snagged some Amphenol / IBM QSFP cables on Ebay but am getting unsupported transceiver errors on mine. Will have to try and find an updated firmware for this, or snag some on FS.com.
