WD - easystore® 4TB External USB 3.0 Hard Drive - Black

Deal has been on and off since Saturday, looks like clearing inventory.
Both sizes have been shown to reds, they have a removable USB to sata converter. Warranty status on the drive shows as the entire easystore device and 2 years though (poo).

I ordered a 4TB on Saturday was delivered Wednesday, can personally confirm that's a red. Bought a 2nd today to pickup on the way home from work.

Update 4/23/2017
Price on the 8TB DROPPED another $20 down to $179.99, its also curently a front page deal on slickdeals. RIP stock.

Update 4/25/2017
Both deals now look dead

Update 4/30/2017

Update 4/30/2017 (late)

Awesome deal! If I hadn't converted to 2.5" drives I would be all over this.

Does it have any proprietary sata, power connection or just plain NAS Red drives?

Of out of pesos but a couple of 8tb drives would be the beginning of a nice collection. 24 would definitely take care of my zfs needs for the next 5 years at almost any level of hoarding

What is the best way to test the drives before shucking them?

With smaller capacity drives, I used to just do a full format, fill them up 70-80 % and try to copy back from the drive in another machine. With my 6TBs, I just connected and started using them in a RAID array with full init. They were from WD Duos and no worries with repackaging them in the original boxes for an RMA if they were bad.

I'm a windows only person who had to search online how to login as root in Ubuntu. So any windows based tools would be great or instructions on how to verify in other operating systems.

Thanks in advance.

BTW. Just ordered another 6. Basically all the stock in the 4 bestbuys within a 20 mi radius.

¯\_(ツ)_/¯

In case anyone has doubts, I've confirmed that the 8TB drives are WD Reds as well.
