I've downloaded and run ioSphere on windows 7 tonight with no license or support. It's a separate download category in line with ioDrive on the support site.

SLC VERSION is giving me some Driver install errors (WIN7).

Something along the lines of "ERROR WITH MSI" over and over, and then it reverts, cancels the install and halts.

Is this what you guys are seeing when you need to use something OTHER than the LATEST version of VSL?

Trying 3.2.8 (2014 version) instead of 3.2.10 (latest - 2015 version).

Same thing. It freezes/crashes, then I reboot check the LOG and same thing.

If I try to re-install I get the actual "ERROR CANNOT CONTINUE CHECK LOGS" screen, the 1st time it seems to always crash though. (Tried a couple times.)

So that's VSL Versions: (160GB SLC FUISON IO FOR REFERENCE)
3.2.10 - No Go
3.2.8 - No Go

Can't find HP / DELL / LENOVO / ETC anywhere on drive to indicate it's a rebrand... any other ideas?

This is the LAST PIECE to my home-server upgrade (SLOG), and would love to get this damn thing working so I can get this server back up and then go on to the other half dozen Fusion IO drives to work on :D

Ok, so after checking logs I believe it was a permissions issue from running it on the flash drive, not 100%.

So I moved to my desktop and ran it, and got another error. This time the error log says device / related devices not found. 3.2.10
So I went to 3.2.8 and I got another error, not one that says "device not found", this time it says the .MSI files were absent.

How is that possible from a single EXE... a bit weird. I'm wondering if this other system has win7 permission issues.

Going to reluctantly open up my desktop again and try in here, where I know [fusion io cards] they work.

I was never able to get a 160GB SLC IBM HighOPS card to work with 3.1.x or 3.2.x in my Windows machine. The drivers wouldn't even see it. 2.x worked fine. I flashed it to matching 2.x firmware.

I had problems POSTing with my Fusion-IO cards a while ago until I turned off PCI-e power saving in the BIOS, that solved the problem for me.

Bumping this old thread with an update, in case T-minus or others find this useful:

After a few hours today, I was finally able to update the firmware on my 160GB SLC Fusion-IO to 3.x from 2.x. It looks like I needed a firmware file that worked for unbranded SLC adapters, and this early one wasn't listed in most of the ones I downloaded.

I pulled the fff file out of here: Fusion-io Driver and Management Server for Linux 64-bit - ThinkStation P500, P700 and P900 - Lenovo Support (US)

Looked for PN "001194010" on the internet and "EP001193-000_3" which is printed on the card, couldn't find anything, though I learned how to look through fff files and saw that the truncated 001194 was in the fff I originally got to work:

(a lot of time passes)

I ended up guessing that this is an "unbranded" card and not from HP/Dell/IBM, etc. So, I started searching around based on that.

LOOKS LIKE I FINALLY FOUND UNBRANDED FIRMWARE ON LENOVO

FYI, all the latest drivers are on Home and are free for download w/o a support contract. I'd update to the latest 3.2.14.

@jfeldt thanks for the reply! I was able to get mine updated, got another batch of them a few months back @whitey flashed/updated and we even found 1 I had was bad. I've traded/sold off most of them by now, I think I have 1 or 2 160GB SLC left to use as SLOG devices in some NAS builds for friends systems. Maybe 1x 320GB I'll throw in a for a L2ARC cache just cuz it's here, lol!

@acquacow awesome! Thanks, downloading and adding to my storage for safe keeping ;)

Great to hear! "320GB I'll throw in a for a L2ARC cache just cuz it's here" is exactly what I did to my ZFS server once I started going with 1.2TB cards for my workstation :)

What OS would you be using it in for an SLOG / L2ARC? I'd like to do the same but setting up an entire ZFS RAIDZ via command line is too daunting for me. But it doesn't look like you can get a FusionIO drive to work in FreeNAS / Proxmox / Solaris very easily.

My first setup was OpenIndiana and napp-it. It was pretty easy to add FusionIO to that, if you are familiar with Unix. I think it was pkg_add and a few lines of ZFS config, I can check and start a new thread or add to one if you are interested. I am now using Solaris 11.3 without any training wheels and it was also very easy.
