how do these get powered? is it just a normal SATA port they work with, or only supermicro specific?

Neat idea... gadget spider-sense tingling. Any reason I need this vs. booting off USB (for unraid) or a couple of S3500s (for pfsense)?

There is a picture in the ebay auction.
It looks like these are supermicro specific.
X9 needs a cable from the DOM to the Motherboard.
X10 series has power on the socket

Not a bad price but if you're not running SM X10, the 5v power cable is another $10-20. I paid $72 each for the last batch of 64GB DOMs I bought from eBay.

For SM X9, this is the cable you need. Supermicro CBL-PWEX-0625 3 Pin to 2 Pin 5V SATADOM Power Cable, 12.7cm, 28AWG | eBay

If you can find/make a power cable to fit a regular moles plug these should work in any SATA motherboard.

I'm running all of my Proxmox installs on these things in SATA2 ports and they've been great.

seller listed 4 more, bought them, too and now have enough bootdrives for my SYS-F628R3-R72B+ Nodes :D
I was hesitated to push the button and when I went back they were gone! :)

i might resell some of them if i get 64GB modules somewhen ;)

Yes, i also had some conerns, but the model-number said they are exactly the supermicro 32GB SuperDOM ... if they aren't i`ll just return the whole batch.

Thanks for all the info... probably not for me after reading through the link above. My 160gb s3500's were only ~$35/ea, and doesn't seem I'd get any incremental benefit over those. Neat little devices, though!

Nice price for those too - am using 325's (160) for the same purpose (and price). _Alex's price would have been ok for me though if he hadn't taken all of them :p

These will work in any server that supports SATA DOM power - you'll just need to use the power cable to connect the power. Newer SM boards with the 'orange' SATA connectors can deliver power with a SM proprietary approach.
