That's a tempting deal if I didn't see so many people having issues with ASUS motherboards, bios, etc all over these forums.
Yea. I bought then thought about it a bit more. Not having at least 10GbE means you will spend $100+ per node on networking and have zero expansion. I thought of 3U (2 servers) that I could consolidate onto this platform so for me it made sense.

I plan to use it as compute nodes for homelab usage , each nodes have 2 x 2.5" and M2 slot.

Each Z10PH-D16 boards have 5 SATA3 and M2 or 6 SATA interface. I think having a M2 boot SSD + 2 x 1TB SSD, will be ok with me.

If the whole 2u 4 nodes idea is no working out,
here is my plan B , each Z10PH-D16 board is worth couple hundreds $$$ , with the Newegg sale price , I paid about $150 for each Z10PH-D16 board.

Okay, I caved and bought one too, had a $200 gift card burning a hole in my pocket.

I only have a pair of 2683 v3 QSs to test with, will report back with my findings.

I agree that those proprietary cards just look like regular PCIe with short brackets, I have some flashed LSI 9300 and some ConnectX-2/ConnectX-3s to try out.

What case is that? Is that a 2p hacked inside an itx case?

Cooler Master HAF Stacker 915R Mini-ITX Computer Case - Can Support Up To 140mm Radiators (Rear PSU Mount)

Cooler Master HAF Stacker 915R Mini-ITX Computer Case - Can Support Up To 140mm Radiators (Rear PSU Mount) - Newegg.com

Neat :):):)

If you don't need GPU power for gaming , it is just perfect layout.
Regular HeatSink and case fan, should be quiet enough.

The picture is a ASUS Z9PH half SSI board fit into a Mini ITX case.
I checked out the Z10PH doc for PS connection and panel connection, it is not complicated to make the PS connectors.

You wouldn't happen to know of a store that still has one of those in stock? I have a Z8 series board that's been collecting dust (got it for cheap, thought it was a good idea, etc.). Everywhere I looked has that chassis as out of stock with no estimates on availability and there aren't even any on eBay...

Thanks for the links, I apparently bought an RS926-E7/RS8 without thinking it through to completion. Now I've got to track down 4 E5-4600s, and possibly a new power company.
Welcome!

Now we need pics in the DIY build forum!

That HAF Stacker is awesome! Too bad there's only one PCI slot.

My 4N2U system just arrived while I was out to lunch. The bottom of the box had all of the tape broken.

Unit looks to be in good shape though.
