Patrick, I'm interested in the Avoton board and 16GB RAM kit. Can you comment if this would be lower/equal/higher in performance compared to a Supermicro Pentium D-1508 for an unRaid server that does a Plex transcode or two?

Based on roughly comparing specs and benchmarks it looks like the Avoton doesn't utilize ECC RAM, doesn't have an onboard M.2 slot or 10G ethernet, has lower single thread performance, but higher multithread performance and a 5W TDP advantage.

Hello Patrick, Wow, you had some steals! i will take the
4x 8GB SK.HynixECC DDR3L SODIMMs (for Avoton/ Rangeley boards) - $100 for the set, if deal falls thru& or you find more! Thanks Much, ABQ :)

Just going to make a single thread here. Recently shut down the Las Vegas colocation facility and am full in the others so selling many items. All prices are going to be shipped to the US. International folks feel free to use Shipitto with a US address. These are data center pulls so assume normal wear and tear:

Atom Family
  • Supermicro A1SAi-2750F (8 core Avoton mITX) - $275 bare board
  • (SOLD) Supermicro A1SRi-2758F (8 core Rangeley mITX) - $300 bare board
  • Supermicro X9SBAA-F (2 core Centerton mITX) + 8GB Kingston SODIMM + 60GB Corsair Force GT (boot SSD) - $115 - local pickup will get free short depth 1U chassis with PSU.
Atom System Add-on Items
  • (SOLD) 2x Crucial M500 240GB (pfSense Boot SSDs) - $100 for the pair
  • 4x 4GB Micron ECC DDR3L SODIMMs (for Avoton/ Rangeley boards) - $45 for the set
  • (SOLD) 4x 8GB SK.Hynix ECC DDR3L SODIMMs (for Avoton/ Rangeley boards) - $100 for the set
Networking
  • (SOLD) 2x Dell PowerConnect 5524 (24 port 1GbE + 2 port 10GbE SFP+ + HDMI stacking) - $325 for the pair and will throw in a HDMI cable for stacking. These are nice since you can stack without using the 10GbE ports.
  • (pending) Gnodal GS4008 (40 port SFP+ 10GbE and 8 port QSFP+ 40GbE switch) - $650 -- Note this switch does have shipping damage to one of the PSUs - see here It looks like the handle got crushed thanks to the DC handling/ shipping. The other PSU is fine.
  • Mikrotik CCR1036-8G-2S+EM - $700
Storage
  • Synology DS1812+ 8-bay NAS w/ 8x 2TB HGST hard drives (mixed Coolspin and 7200rpm) - $650.
    • Drives were working during erase but they are older drives so bundling them with the NAS for free in the event you can use them.
  • 4x Crucial M500 480GB - $380 for the set
  • (pending) 3x 3TB WD Red + 1x HGST 3TB - $250 for the set of four drives
CPUs
  • Intel Xeon E3-1281 V3 - $300
  • Intel Core i7-4770 - $200
Server Systems
  • Dell PowerEdge C6220 3.5" chassis with 4x nodes. Will be available to ship by Friday 12/2. $2100. Each node has:
    • 3x with Dual Intel Xeon E5-2670 V1 and 1x with Dual Intel Xeon E5-2620 V1 (to keep power consumption from maxing out under 100% load. Can swap for E5-2670 V1 CPUs.)
    • 64GB RAM
    • Dual 10GbE SFP+ networking via mezzanine cards so PCIe slot is free. (Have Mellanox cards add $200 for a set of 4 and you can have both sets)
    • Includes 12x 3.5" drive trays
  • Dell PowerEdge C6100 3.5" chassis with 4x dual processor nodes - $500.
    • Will include spare PSU
  • Supermicro 1U Avoton - $345
    • Supermicro CSE 505-203B case (front I/O)
    • Supermicro A1SAi-2550F (quad core Avoton)
    • 16GB (4x 4GB) ECC SODIMM RAM
Machine Learning GPUs/ Xeon Phi
  • (pending) 4x NVIDIA GRID M40 (4x GM107L with 4GB RAM per GPU and 16 total) $475 ea or $1800 for all 4. Please do read the NVIDIA GRID M40 guide. These are essentially 4x Maxwell generation GPUs (GeForce 750 Ti like) with 4GB RAM and a PLX switch chip on each card. Nice single slot low power solution.
    • You will need to have a compatible system (BIOS settings with 8x GPUs are important)/ cooling to use them.
    • Despite being GRID cards they are not GRID supported so you are looking at CUDA cards/ video encoding cards.
    • You can run them independently for CUDA applications and use them with Docker containers. See the example here with a system using 2 of these cards doing cryptocurrency mining and earning around 0.2 XMR/ day which is about a $33/month profit using $0.10/kWh electricity.
  • ASUS STRIX GTX 970 4GB - $175 (will not ship until 12/2)
  • 2x Intel Xeon Phi 31S1P - no brackets - $300 for the pair
I am going to be updating this thread as I open more boxes

Upcoming items
This is a note to myself. Need to validate configurations before listing for sale.
  • Supermicro SYS-7048GR-TR GPU compute workstation

If you can live with only two, check my FS thread. Have some for about the same price.

PM's responded to. Sold items shipped. Updated Gnodal with damaged PSU testing results and lowered price.

@smitty2k1 The Avoton / Rangeley systems do use unbuffered ECC memory. D1508 v. C2550 is hard since I am not a plex user. C2750 will be much faster than a D1508 and use less power.

@abq sent that set out today. May have another one coming but I am also thinking of just bundling with the C2750.

@Patrick, no worries, please let me know if/when you have another set of 4x8gb ecc sodimm. ...Or a set of 4x16gb ecc sodimm would be even sweeter for my Supermicro A1SRi-2758 :)

@BlueFox, I would prefer matching set of 4x8gb ecc sodimm, but interested if you have 2x8gb ecc sodimm at Patrick's pricing;) ...I would be ecstatic to find 4x16gb ecc sodimm for good price :) Would need to work with Supermicro A1SRi-2758.

I will take the Avoton board if you take Paypal. Any chance you have a 1U case to sell with it also?

Updated with another day's worth of gear that is now gone. I also moved the sold items to their own section since it was about half the list.

I'm interested in the 2U 2-node SM SYS-6027TR-D71FRF, but have a couple questions:
  • Which PSU Models are in the unit?
  • When you say Dual E5-2665 V1 (C0), is that per node?

Hi @Brandt -
They are the 1.28kW 80 Plus platinum units that come with the system.
Yes, those are for each node.

A few more items sold.

I updated pricing on the Dell C6100. I opened it up today and saw that each node was actually 48GB RAM not 24GB. At $15/ each that is $320 worth of just RAM.

Also as a note to myself, the old dual E5 36-bay FreeNAS server is coming up soon. Need to clear more room from the racks.

Supermicro 1U C2550 system sold.

Price lowered for the Dell C6100. Likely not going lower than this since it is already at or below the price of parting it out just for RAM/ memory.

Prices also lowered for the Synology NAS.

Some items are going to ebay tomorrow/ Monday.
