I see the CSE-504-203B and CSE-505-203B cases are listed with "200W Low Noise AC-DC" power supplies. I don't expect 'silent' in 1U, but I'd like to know if anyone here knows more about what SuperMicro means by this.

Is anyone using either of these and able to comment on the noise level? I'm aware of the reality of 40mm fans and don't expect silence, but I'd like to know if this is something that could reasonably be put in an otherwise fanless switch rack without causing too much extra noise.

Canada Eh?
I have the 505-203B. The power supply is pretty much silent. I have it paired with a A1SRI-2758F, a pair of FAN-0100L4 and a SSD which are not exactly high power draw though.

Thanks for the info! That's similar to the setup I'm considering. Do you like the reversed port config of the 505?

I do. I chose that layout due to where it originally went -- closet where cable modem was, plus where all the Ethernet is run to for my condo. Made it easier to have everything on the front. Now that it is in my rack, it is nice as my switch is front mounted.

I went with the CSE-504-203B which has the same power supply. You were right on about the PSU! The only trouble I've had is that the cables on the ATX power connector seem to need a pretty significant bend to clear the 1U lid.

How is the noise level of that FAN-0100L4? What bracket did you use to mount it? I'm having trouble finding the part number for the dual and/or single fan bracket.

I don't find them loud at all ( once booted) the 2758 doesn't require much airflow, but it does require some. Fan speed is set to "Standard Speed", right now it is turning at ~3700rpm (~1/2). Based on the matrix I wouldn't be surprised if it was well under 30db (i.e. less noise then the PSU).

Fan holders are part #MCP-320-81302-0B. I grabbed mine from ebay for ~10$ each.

Thinking about this I may even only have 1 fan in there at the moment (just for the CPU, no expansion card), as I may have used the fan in my other 1U case. That would help a bit on the noise side too.

Does any of you know if the PWS-203-1H PSU is manufactured by SuperMicro or whitelabel, perhaps manufactured by FSP?

UPDATE: Found this picture......it sure has the SM logo on it.

Like all SM PSUs, the PWS-203-1H is manufactured by Ablecom, a "related" company (i.e., common ownership and control, but not officially subsidiary).

Somewhat related: I've got a CSE-512L-200B which was a good price but it has the PWS-202-1H and it's AWFUL - really noisy, and a super annoying pitch too. I'd like to replace it with a PWS-203-1H, but on their own they cost almost as much as a 504 case with one included. Also, the power specs are strangely different: it seems the 202 can deliver way more power on the other rails, but I don't think that's relevant to my use (A1SAM-2550 and 1 SSD). Can anyone suggest a better way to get one, or just buy another chassis?

The UL file for E313298 comes back as Supermicro. However, there is at least one power supply manufactured by 3Y power, the YM-5201C, in that file. My experiences with 3Y products have been "less than optimal".
