WTB: what happened to all those 48-core quad-socket g34 systems?

I am browsing Ebay for some time to snipe a 48 core quad g34 system. There should be a lot of those left over from the early bitcoin and folding at home hypes, no? So far I have been disappointed.

Anyone got one for sale? Or want to trade for something more modern?

I'd pay significantly more if it is one of the boards with 32 RAM slots (H8QGI+-F o.ä.).

I would like to have "Magny-Cours" (aka Athlon-2) CPUs. Bulldozer is less interesting to me.

You could also look into the HP DL580 g7. I had one that packed 4 E7530 or something along those lines.

Depends how much you want to pay for harbringer... Its a mad one off build for folding at home.

6100 ES chips... which means they are unlocked. That said... I fragged the first board running them at 3.8ghz drawing 315w/socket.
Have not overclocked on the new board at all. At 3.3ghz they broke 1m ppd in fah which was more than E5-4650 v1 4p could do.

The value in man hours is worth far more than the components.

Patriot`s Cinebench - R11.5 score: 45.3 points with a Opteron 6164 HE

Kinda sad to see it slide down the rankings over the years.

My last bits of AMD G34 are now with @IanCutress at Anandtech. He was at the house earlier this year and I donated to his project. I don't know how he got the G34 chips and motherboard back to the UK though.

The big issue is that the 4P G34 is well below the performance of modern E5 V4's. You also do not get PCIe 3.0 and the power consumption is much higher. Also, newer chips can utilize larger DIMMs so you no longer even have a RAM benefit.

I don't need fast CPUs. I would probably put in the lower power versions.

The main practical purpose for this is that I want to have a 4-way NUMA system. The newest one I have is still socket 940.

If you want low power... you should be looking at 6300 chips not 6100.
