I've had my issues with FreeNAS, there's definitely a lack of polish on the UI (the confusing errors if you have 520 byte formatted drives, ugh!) but I have never ever lost data with it. I reckon that's the important metric. I hope you try it out at least for the sake of learning something. Too...
