This idea came from this post by @whitey

Here is the question - what have you seen in terms of traffic over the past month at home? We cut the cord and have been a bit under the weather (travelling less) so the wife uses Netflix HD quite a bit.

I guess the questions for everyone are:
  1. How much traffic have you passed in the last month?
  2. Do you still have a cable TV subscription
For those using pfSense if you want something similar to the above:
  • Go to Status -> RRD Graphs
  • Go to the Traffic tab
  • Scroll down to see different time cuts. The above is the 1 month 1 hour average view
I can say our traffic has gone up quite a bit since getting rid of cable TV (still have 125Mbps download speeds on Comcast Xfinity)

Still have satellite TV (Foxtel AU). There are a few things you can't get any other legal way.

No cumulative data (I should see if there's a way to do that in Cacti) - but at 2.42Mbps/224.44Kbps (D/U) average over a 31 day month it's about 755GB down and 70GB up.

Also it's easy to see the 27 hour outage caused by a UPS and storage cascade failure ...

We live out in the sticks in Eastern Tennessee, so internet is scarce. After having cable modem here for years, we just got an upgrade - 15Mb down 2Mb up, so moving media is more painful than our old Comcrap in Atlanta was (150Mb/30Mb). Used to be 8Mb/1Mb.

We do not have cable tv.

I'd never checked my Zyxel USG50 for usage but under my Traffic Statistics I found it:

"since 2016-01-27 Wed 07:03:59 to 2016-02-02 Tue 18:59:32"

Sadly it doesn't let me change date ranges, so I'm assuming this is only from last power-reset.

I'd imagine there is more data in the logs someplace I can access, but likely CLI... I'll have to check into it.

Am I missing the numbers?

In the past 11 days (since I updated the router firmware) our household has used 335GB on a Comcast 150/10 plan (250GB down, 80 up). That's two adult couples. We use Netflix (usually just to binge a show these days) and Comcast Go. I also use it extensively for work.

We kept the basic TV package because it was cheaper than getting blast alone for the first two years. We watch most of our TV on the Go app, with the projector hooked up to the cable box accounting for probably less than 10% of our viewing these days. Just as well we're unlimited (given a solid chunk is from Comcast's App).

That's actually a little more than we've been running in the past few months. (and it looks like there has been 350kB/s coming into the house for the last 24 hours+, so I'm thinking their AppleTV has been running as it's outgoing on the 5GHz WLAN interface)

I've used more than I'm supposed to, but still a lot less than I could have.

It's only the last few days, not entire month so I didn't post anything -- was hoping someone may know how to quickly see the stored usage on the USG50 :)

No cable for almost 2 years now. Our usage went up a bit when we cut it off but we were streaming most of the things we watched long before we got rid of cable, it was just something I took too long getting around to doing.

Here is my monthly graph. Here in Slovenia, EU I have 100/100 FTTH connection. Native dual stack - so basically it is 2 x 100/100. lhncore.png

I don't have Cable TV any more, but I have HD IPTV with approx. 220 channel and VOD service.
Paying about 80 €/month for Internet + 2 x HD IPTV +2 x VoIP phones + 2 x Mobile phones.

I don't have pfsense running here. Just a NetGenie report from my router.

Last month I did a complete new setup on my main rig so I see a large amount of download on this.

HAHAHA I agree !!!

I do not watch any TV or have Netflix so all that is mostly game related and updates. The main one is Star Citizen which is over 30GB download, then the test server, same thing.
