These are the new(er) Connect-X2 40Gb/s versions:

http://mellanox.com/related-docs/prod_adapter_cards/ConnectX-2_VPI_Card.pdf

... and compatible with SMB 3.0:

Fast man... Silly fast...

As all those DC's start upgrading to Romley, the little guys can start doing stuff like this with all those inexpensive SSD's and second hand gear...

:)

peace,

Nice!!!

Indeed... 8X... and at these transfer rates (32Gb effective) you are pushing up against PCIe 2.0 8X ceiling...

Just bid on 6 @ that price... I have some plans for that Chenbro chassis :)

ehorn,

How do you plan to implement SMB3.0?

Aren't you running ZFS/Napp-IT

WOW $100 is a great price. That is close to what you can get the 20Gbps dual port cards for.

Hi awedio,

No, I am not currently running a ZFS implementation. Though one could bond these NICS via OpenSM to achieve bandwidth scaling with systems for ZFS.

I just tinker (hobby stuff)... from month to month the lab can look very different. I intend to tinker with SMB 3.0 within the framework of server to server (2012 <--> 2012) and server to client (2012 <--> Win 8). Mostly SAN <--> VM stuff, tinkering with many of the new features.

Hardware wise, I am slowly acquiring gear to update/refresh the lab... picking up stuff here and there as good deals (and discretionary budget) are presented and if I see a good deal and fits into the planning, I post it up.

Like many hobbyists, I like to try to buy stuff at a decent price that I feel will be in some demand in the future - which helps to offset the costs. Some gear (like these NICs) can roll in and out of the lab without hitting the pocket-book too badly... Other gear which is not as easy to flip, becomes a more durable purchase.

Thanks... 6 confirmed @ that price...

They went fast...

I spoke to a Mellanox rep this morning and, for anyone who might need them, Mellanox sells LP brackets direct for $2 each. Just contact their sales dept.

Great to know on the LP brackets.

I think we got at least 18 of the 25.

On a side note (in Server 2012):

Thx to Mellanox (IB) & Microsoft (multi-channel SMB3), file shares will out perform iSCSI!

Interesting times ahead, unfortunately, there's no way of doing SMB3 in ZFS (at least not now)

"liquid8technology.com has turned down your offer and this listing is closed."

sent the 2 x $100 offer last night right after you guys but since some bum snapped up 11 of these probably with the sole intent to flip, no love left :) maybe next time.

yep that's exactly what I was interested in testing with these with.
