Ok so I used 9260 fw and sbrlsi, it works

I just have to change sas adress, hope to find it

But i still have a problem, windows 7 with megaraid does not allow me to create raid partition, it's greyed....

I'll try to update sas adress, maybe it's that...

Sorry if this has been asked before but if I could manage to flash my M5014/M4015 cards to the LSI firmware can I use the cachecade software option rather than the hideously expensive hardware dongle IBM sell?

Happy new year!

I am Using here the M5015, but i am stuck with trying to upgrade the firmware. My goal is to use the IBM firmware and not LSI or other, as i want to keep the existing RAID10 configuration, guarantee and don't want to risk to brick mine M5015.
The reason to upgrade the firmware is that the my harddrives are using physical 4kb sectors, while M5015 logical sees 512bytes.

I have downloaded different firmware versions from IBM and tried to upgrade from RHEL6 and Windows server 8,both times the firmware upgrade software from IBM end with an error: not intended for this platform.
Believe this error has to do because the Server hardware is NON IBM.

Is it possible to upgrade the M5015 on a third party vendor hardware server (non IBM branded)? And if yes, please give a short explanation, where to get the firmware and how to upgrade it (preferred to use MRM, as using this to manage my controller).

Thank you.

I hope you unpacked the files above and got the Firmware out.
You need a file called xxxxxxx.rom

use MSM to update the firmware point it to the xxxxxxx.rom file and update, it's that simple

You can update firmware from IBM, Intel and LSI (rom file) they'll all work the same and leave you card a M5015

I have flashed my IBM M5015 Controller with the LSISBR File and the newest LSI Firmware (12.15.0-0205).
I can see that the newest Firmware is now on the controller but the controller itself is still recognized as IBM M5015.

Is it normal that the controller is still recognized as a 5015 ? Or you can completely transform the information into an LSI ?

Hi PegLover,

What is the advantage to use LSI firmware except that it is always up to date than the IBM?
That means I have my controller also flashed properly and can I calmed create my raid ?

Ok I have a couple m5015. Thought I would experiment with some new Seagate ST6000NM0034 SAS drives (12Gb spec) Bought this StarTech fan out cable SAS808782P50 which is a SFF8087 to 4x SFF8482 (it has adapters to connect to normal sata power connectors) I cannot get drives to spin up. Do I need to configure the card to recognize SAS? Tried different ports different power connections etc. Are drives not getting the commands to spin up?.

Howdy all, I'm not sure if we need a new thread for this or not. However ... I asked the question about the 12Gb SAS Drives from Seagate (ST6000NM0034). I was attempting to get these to spin up on an M5015 ...No joy there. I ended up purchasing a pair of M5210 cards and finally things were working. Does anyone know if the 12Gb spec is not compatible with 6Gb cards? I'm hearing it should be. Is it only 6Gb cards with SFF-8643 MiniSAS connectors? Of course that's conjecture on my part but with SFF-8087 is there actually a difference in the cabling for 12Gb there are SSF-8087 -> SFF-8482 fan-out cables, none I tried worked.
Also on the new M5210 getting into the config utillity has not been possible for me. I have a UEFI bios and do not seem to be able to navigate into any utilities for the card. I have the AVAGO MSM in windows but I want to configure JBOD and it seems as if the only way to do that is with the configuration utility on boot. I just don't know how. Is there as string on this site with an answer to the utility issue I'm having?

After some testing with the IBM M5015, I've determined that you can go to the LSI 12.15.0-0189 firmware and have it be stable. Once flashed to that version, just set the SBR to the 9260 version and you should be good to go. It will fast boot and think it is a 9260-8i card. There is one caveat however, if you set the card back to defaults within the BIOS utility by pressing CTRL-H and selecting "Reset to defaults", upon the next bootup the card will think it is a ServeRAID M5015 again and slow boot. In order to solve this, you will need to clearflash, then flash verison 0189 again, and set the SBR to 9260 again. Other than that, it should stay as a 9260 and work without issue.

I haven't found a way around the 0205 firmware reset back to the M5015 yet, and am still looking for a solution to that. If anyone has an idea for testing, please let us know.

Thanks!!

the drives show up find and all but in the raid card bios and user interface in windows i can't create a raid array it's all grayed out it's strange as the HUC101212CSS600 work fine! any one have any ideas ? i am stressing out as have put out a lot of money and i cant return the drives :( thank you very much for any help. if you want any info or screen shots let me know.

Hello all,

Is there a definitive latest 9260 firmware version that is safe to use with the M5015 without the car reverting itself back to being an M5015 after flashing the SBR and firmware?

Case of point - decided in my infinite wisdom to upgrade to the latest firmware on the Avago/LSI website just to find out the card was no longer identified as a 9260 but back to M5015. Did some trial and error and it appears that regardless of the process - (clear flash, reboot, flash to the latest fw 0289, flash sbr) - after a reboot the card still identifies itself as a M5015. I flashed to version 0124 and it appears to be solid for the time being...

Thanks.
