If you are planning on adding NVMe JBODs, you have to go 9500. 9400 only doesn NVMe internally. If it's just SAS3 JBOD's, save money and go 9305w-16e.
I did actually do a bunch of testing with SAS SSD SS530/SS540 with expanders and without with 9300 vs 9500 series, and the 9500 actually came out on top, will see if I can find numbers, sadly when you introduse expanders you loose some umph, and with ZFS even more... at least with expander AND ZFS they are somwhat inline with each other ;)

on other hand, on older hpe systems the P408 actually came out and did better than u.3 and trimode controlleres/enclosures.

He just assured me in writing, if anyone is buying his product here through STH and provide the code 'gb09s', he will ship FedEx for free within 12 hours of receiving the payment. Of course, I don't take any responsibility for any mishandling and/or miscommunication or translation and any damages (mentally, financially, and/or physically).
Ordered a 7402p from them (tugm4470) - it arrived extremely well packed and functioning. Thanks for the code, it was sent via FedEx and arrived in 5 days to California. Even better, I think they didn't have a 7402p handy so received a 7402 instead :) Was an amazing deal on a 24-core server-grade part that's only ~3 years old.

Mine also arrived without a battery, and the Supemicro manual for the motherboard doesn't indicate the type of battery required :) It sure looks like a CR-2032 though.

I ordered from the same seller tugm4470. Very good communication. Hasn't arrived yet in Brisbane Australia but fedex tells me it should be here mid next week.

Can anyone confirm the battery is a CR-2032 ?

It would have been really nice if the BMC/IPMI on these boards had been reset to factory default; I don't have a KVM and so can't easily use the VGA console. I've been able to discover the IP address of the BMC using nmap (it's got a statically assigned address) but the admin password is not the default from the sticker on the board. Grr. A neighbor loaned me a VGA monitor so once I can bring up the main CPU (waiting on RAM to arrive) I'll have to boot from a USB drive and use ipmicfg to reset it.

Yeah boards generaly come without the battery if going airmail.

Its that or declare it as battery product for higher shipping cost + limited how much weight of such shipments per flight so can get delayed between flights.

yeah I get why they do it, I've recently shipped 400lbs of just lihtium batteries (ups stuff) and its "interesting" doing it legally.
So its really clever, just never seen anyone actually bothering removing them.

I actually grabbed a few more 7402/h12 combos, price was right and I can change out some x9/X10/x11/h11 stuff and get a boost, and still get ipmi/bios for years to come. I think your local to me btw.

Finally got my H11SSL-i+7232p installed yesterday, replaced an X11SCM-F+E5-2134. Major performance boost as expected. Power consumption went from 60W at idle to 80W at idle, but that's partly due to the RAM change (64GB ECC UDIMM -> 128GB ECC RDIMM, same speed). Dynatron A26 with Noctua fan is working perfectly as CPU cooler in an SM 2U chassis. Overall this was truly a "Great Deal" :)

My H12,7402P, DDR, Cooler combo turned up within one week. All working beautifully. Much faster than E5 v3 :)

CPU was 7402, not 7402P.

Recommended seller.

Just for reference, last year I bought an H11SSL-i kit from Sinobright on ebay and earlier this year I bought an Epyc Gen2 CPU from BestOffer4you1.

The kit from Sinobright came with 2133 RAM instead of 2400 as promised, they said they'd make it up but didn't. I didn't care enough to chase it and other than that the kit was in good condition when it arrived, running for over a year without issue.

The CPU, I had intended to buy a different chip, ordered it and then changed my mind, they let me cancel that order and change it without issue.

I have bought loads of stuff from AliExpress, at relatively high value, hardly had any issues. This was my first time buying high value from China on eBay and it went fine enough, same behaviour I'd expect from western sellers.

I bought this exact combo from this seller and have absolutely loved it.

I needed to get rid of my rack and move into an ATX form factor for my lab and this worked remarkably well

Which is better... Tyan s8030 or supermicro h12ssi? In the tugm store.
if it were me, I’d go H12 Supermicro to get access to Milan-x as a possible upgrade down the line. NVMe ports look good if you have the chassis for it with the Tyan.
