Micron 5100 eco 960gb 2.5inch $70/each or buyer's offer

I don't know whether it is a deal. And I remembered OWC(macsales.com) had Micron 5100 pro 960gb for $7x/each around 2019 on this forum.

Update on 11/2: its price was reduced to $65 each then $68 each with obo.
Update on 11/9: out of stock.
Update on 11/12: the seller has some stocks today.

I think you could find 5200's for around that price if you look a little - but still its probably a decent drive - but its not very performant compared to their PRO or MAX versions.

I dont think that is a good price, I have recently picked up several 800GB SATA SSD's for 35 USD each
What brand/model - just because you can buy something smaller for cheaper, does not make it a bad deal - if you bought 800GB consumer drives, you cannot compare them.

I’m curious what “factory sealed” means if they are in an open tray? Unless they mean the anti-tamper stickers?

The 5100 eco is an interesting product line. Lower endurance (~1Pb for this 960GB model) than their other enterprise products. A consumer Samsung 860 evo 1tb will have more than twice the endurance, but along with it's consumer focus will ALSO cost twice as much. So, depends on what you’re looking for.

I have a couple 6+pb 960gb drives in my NAS, along with a pair of 960Gb Micron 5100s (mine are in m.2 format), and I bet the sun will grow cold before I wear any of them out.

Its enterprise class, Intel, Micron, Samsung, HGST. All available for 40-50 USD in 800gb to 960gb range .What I got for 35 USD recently was OCZ intrepid 3800, with "unlimited" endurance.
OCZs claimed endurance on your drive is 7.3 Pb. Not "unlimited", but a lot more than this Micron. OTOH, the OCZ 3800 series was introduced 9 years ago, so no telling ahead of time how much use a randomly selected used one will have. The ones listed by the OP are new.

Again, it depends on what you're looking for. For folks that are looking for drives like the one the OP listed, I think they're a pretty good deal.

I know that these exist out there, but havent seen a retail 800GB SSD in a while, besides maybe Intel. Especially a Samsung. Are these overprovisioned or something?
800GB drives are enterprise drives, they have a significant overprovisioning compared to consumer drives.

@Fritz which one did you buy? Micro 960 GB or the 800GB from unixsurplus? Looking for a esx data store drive replacement.

I would never buy a "800GB Major brand" - simply because I want to be able to know exactly what I am buying - but that might just be me :)

For $35 any 800GB enterprise SSD will do, even if they are at 50% health they'll have more endurance than any 1TB consumer drive.

Thats not my point - my point is you do not know what drive you will get - its whatever they decide of "major" brand - however they decide to quantify that. I'm sure they can just send you whatever and still be well within their rights.
