Except for the FlexIO card, it looks like almost the same as the Elitedesk 705 g4 (which I received and opened its case yesterday) in the inside.

Eh, how big is the option port on those Elitedesk machines? About the same size as the ones on the t730/540/640/740, or bigger? A t-series thin client party trick was to use an m2 to mPCIe extender ribbon/slot adapter from the m.2 A+E wifi card location, stick an mPCIe card there and then 3D print a bracket to fit. That “port” was big enough to fit a standard mPCIe network card, which can hold a Realtek 8111C, an Intel i212/217/219 or even an i350-t2.

I was actually thinking more in terms of pf/opn sense. I had the hardest time getting various USB nics to work with it.
Eh, running USB NICs on a firewall is...not an entirely great idea. I mean, are these Elitebook 405s that cheap?

Okay @Patrick - see if you can land an Advantech DS81 at a reasonable price. Those are small ghettoMiniMicro machines - Skylake or Kaby Lake Celeron/i3/i5, dual SODIMM slots and both an Intel i217LM and a Realtek 8111G. Listed for 200 on evilbay, but I think you can probably get one for less than 120 if you hustle a bit. Probably good for dual port applications.

If these have a RTL8153, I actually use that NIC in a router and it works pretty well. But trying to push traffic through these will hammer your CPU somewhat.
