Sorry, I dont actually have the second LAN card in my thin client . I just shared this setting since I though it might be relevant to enabling the M2 PCIe slot functionality in the device itself.
what are you planning to run and how much RAM do you need? If it’s Linux and a pair of 16GB DDR4 SODIMMs, they are 99+taxes+shipping on Newegg, and 2x8GB is around that half of that. 32GB SODIMMs will not work.I got one of the J5005 ones. It was just like my J4105 one, except that it had 3 display ports, rather than the 2 display ports of the J4105.
I am in the market for some ddr4 sodimms for mine, if anyone has some for sale...
I have the Wyse Extended version, and I was planning to use it as a very low power backup solution. I knew that there are no sata slots on the board itself so I knew I had to buy a card for one of the M2 slots. Since I already have the sata ssd slot populated I started looking for a card that fits the A + E slot. I got this one from aliexpress:
US $20.56 |XT XINTE M.2 to Sata 3 Adapter Card A Key and E Key PCIe3.0 to 2 Ports SATA 6gb/s Free Driver 21*30mm Size Black|Add On Cards| - AliExpress
Smarter Shopping, Better Living! Aliexpress.comwww.aliexpress.com
And surprisingly it worked out of the box and was recognised in ESXi (6.7). I could even pass it throgh to FreeNas which recognies it immediately.
My setup is a bit wierd since I will run FreeNas Virtualized and will attach the hard drives using a Sata to Esata cable + dock, and I am still waiting for a cable which I can route through the internals so that I can close the enclosure, but I am pretty happy since everything worked out of the box.
@cageek this item might also be of interest to you since it will allow you to try a bunch of more cards.

You could try something like this. Unfortunately most of the solutions for what you and me are trying to achieve are only available in aliexpress so obviously your mileage may vary. I dont mind it because I am using mine for a low power backup box so none of this is critical.Using that m.2 to sata adapter, to power 2.5 hdd/ssd, is there any way to get sata power from inside the case ? maybe using the AUXCN1 connector from the pice riser?
Or maybe using this type of cable, is it a bad idea?
I had seen that before, but how did you go about actually ordering it? Did you email commell directly or try to go through a distributor? I sent a quote request to their NA distributor but haven't heard back from them.I got the Commell M2-210 and made an adapter out of plastic, so it's up a running in the aux. port location. And the lid even closes.
I went through one of their NA distributors - Global American Inc.: https://globalamericaninc.com/product/commell-m2-210/I had seen that before, but how did you go about actually ordering it? What BIOS version are you on ? No problem here with 2x8GB or 2x16GBI bought two 8gb ddr4 sodimms. I have tested both of them, and they will work when only one is installed. When I install both, the wyse 5070 won't POST. I tried with one 8gb and one 4gb, and still no POST. It is working well with two 4gb sodimms.
According to dell support assist, there is no bios update.
Does anyone have any ideas what I can do?
According to the manual, it supports 4 or 8gb of ram.
I was hoping I could run with 16gb total...
I'm at 1.5.0What bios are you running, and how do you update it? I don't see a setting in the bios to update it.
I saw that 1.8.0 says that it supports "new generation" memory. Maybe try that.I'm at 1.5.0
To update, place the bios exe file on a USB stick formatted as FAT32. Start the system and press F12. BIOS update is one of the options.
I didn't see release notes. Is 1.8.0 available now?I saw that 1.8.0 says that it supports "new generation" memory. Maybe try that.
Bios
It appears that my Wyse has lost the ability to work with 32 GB of memory. After BIOS update from 1.1.3 to 1.5.0 display stays blank, power LED is on. If I put 4GB or 8GB of memory, it works well. I can downgrade version 1.5.0 to 1.4.2, but for anything below the message "Bios Blocked due to unsupported downgrade" is displayed.

Can you post a picture?
Yes, please do so. This is something I am considering getting.Did you still want a photo of the SFP module? I should have time to post one this weekend.
