Been keeping an eye on ebay for a 2U supermicro x10 variant. Looking to upgrade from my natex build from 2016. Spotted the e5-2680v4 CPU's on the forum here a while back, and figured those two would go well together.

This is the cheapest ive found at $350

They also list it on their site, however i was lucky enough to get 5% ebay bucks invite so i went that route.

ESISO, the same seller of the v4 cpu's also has one, though its at $432 and says it doesnt include the HDD trays. I had offered them $375, before i saw the other one, and they countered with $420, so only $12 off the list price. After that is when i looked further and found the above, but this was the cheapest I saw prior to finding it.

I bought one of these not long ago for $349, I am happy with it. I too am contemplating the v4 CPU's. Currently using it as my main compute/storage node.

Did you have to do any tweaking with the fans/BMC? My previous intel setup is pretty quiet, wanting to try to mirror that.
Did you do firmware/bios/bmc/ipmi updates OK?

Is it just me that wants to have a bunch of servers in a room and have an airplane throttle control hooked up to the fans so I can 'throttle up' and play 'airplane' whenever I want? I'm sure the sound would be just as awesome! :D
Anytime I want that, I just issue a RACRESET to my Dells. Then I remember why I hate cold boots and iDRAC updates.

The spare bedroom on the far side of the house has my server rack in it, SOO FREAKING LOUD! I like some white noise, but the 6028U-TRTP X10DRU-i is head splitting.

These supposed to be an upgrade for R720XD? What's the v3/v4 version of heavily dumped equivalent to the E5-2670/E5-2650v2?

These look equivalent to R730XD LFF but 1/3 the price. What's the catch?

I'm taking a guess that the board is actually X10DRL-i+ and not X10DRL-i?

Four (4) 8-pin power-connectors (GPU PWR1-4) used for GPU devices
Supports full height full width cards, and can add a 16x riser card AOC-2UR68-i2XS. Couldn't find how much power you can draw from those connectors though.

Thank you! This is amazing!
Let me know if it works out or not, but I already had the concern about it being loud so I started looking around and found that thread. Seems like there should be a way to get it under control using some of the directions in there.

I have these on my watch list, MATCHING PAIR SR2N7 INTEL XEON E5-2680V4 14 CORE 2.40GHz PROCESSOR | eBay, which seller did you use?

I offered $160 qty 2 and they countered with 163 and I accepted. Per that thread they apparently have accepted $160 before, but didnt for me. Either way looks to be a few bucks cheaper than that pair set, and i you get lucky maybe they would take a bit less on the offer for the singles.

Thanks to @PigLover for his post
I installed ipmitool on one of my Proxmox hosts using these settings:
#set fan mode to "full"
ipmitool raw 0x30 0x45 0x01 0x01
#set fans in "system" zone to 37.5%
ipmitool raw 0x30 0x70 0x66 0x01 0x00 0x24
#set fans in "peripheral" zone to 25%
ipmitool raw 0x30 0x70 0x66 0x01 0x01 0x16

Noticeably quieter, I will monitor temps.Screenshot from 2020-10-22 20-14-40.png
