Another nice find. :) I'd be curious as to the power on hours, but that price per TB is quite nice.

Any "gotchas" with these? Or will any run of the mill SAS3 work? (and out of curiousity, how are they on SAS2?)

In for 8. Much cheaper for my use than even white label WDs.

Just bulk storage in my case. $10/TB compared to $14-$16. For the cost I can self warranty.
Yep and being sas enterprise drives, they're probably built for a longer life than the white labels--so cheaper and better. :)

Do i need to prepare these drives in any special way if I intend them to be used in a napp it appliance, for use as plex storage?

@Mithril The spec sheet says 205MB/s sustained transfer rate. (here) for HUH728080AL5200 (8TB)

205 MegaBytes/s = 1.64 Gigabits/s

SAS3 = 12 Gigabits/s
SAS2 = 6 Gigabits/s
SAS = 3 Gigabits/s

(Caveat) Cache
The spec sheet says 128MB Cache.
Theoretically, transfer rates of 12Gb/s for the first 128MB. Then it drops to 1.64Gb/s (plus the time it takes to flush the 128MB)

Its just a math equation. Take your HW combination and goals then solve for bottlenecks.

In short: a SAS2 controller should work just fine. YMMV

Definitely weird! But the same seller didn't have many of the 10TB so maybe the inventory number was a mistake?

Different ad, different seller, but best price at ebay at the moment. If everyone agrees that $80/drive is a great price then I'd argue that $90/drive is pretty good too ;)

C'mon $10/TB! Honestly with DDR4 prices finally dropping this year I'm just glad high density drives are falling too.

At same time, curious about longevity of these He drives, as we know He slowly leaks out wondering if the age of 8+ years of use has past
