one of the best 2011 v2 cpu at great price. Two of these gives the same multicore performance as one 1950X and slightly faster than one 3900X.

Just make sure your dual cpu or single cpu MB allows oem cpu because this is one of those oem cpu. The non oem 2697 v2 has more compatibility but is a lot more expensive at around $220+

This CPU will not work with intel s2600 or lenovo S30. It will work with supermicro MB, lenovo D30, and asus z9pe series and the chinese x79 MB.

Edit: Price has gone down to $124. And make offer is also allowed now so you can get this at even lower price.

imo this is not a good deal at all, when e5-2678 v3 are cheaper. yes, i'm aware it's a different platform.

Someone just bought 8 cpu at once. only 10 left now.... STH effect.... lol.
If i didn't already have like a dozen v2 cpu of various type i wouldve been in for at least 2 already at this price....

well, the 2678v3 is a little faster and cheaper but your ram will cost a lot more.

if you need to hang on to the 2011 v2 for a while, this $125 2696 v2 cpu would be pretty good for that.

if you already have 2011 v3, should get the 2678 v3 instead. , imo, there;s no point trying to invest in an semi obsolete v2 platform even if the ram is a lot cheaper, unless you have a real need for a lot of ram and need to save money

Interestingly, AMD 15-20W ryzen 7 4800U 8 core 16 thread cpu is about as fast as a single 2696 v2 multicore and obviously much faster in single core.

why it will not work with intel s2600 board?

Intel does not allow any oem or es cpu on their MB.
Not only that, if you are not using v2 cpu, they also clam down the pcie to v2 instead of v3 for the majority of cards with just a handful of cards being on their white list while using v1 cpu.
Sucks. I sold my s2600 and got asus z9pe in its place...

I'm kind of surprised these aren't a ton faster than the dual E5-2667v2 I got not that long ago. Per Passmark single-cpu benchmarks, 12202 vs. 13915 multithreaded and 1955 vs. 1697 single threaded.

I actually got a v3 recently, and I'm somewhat tempted by the E5-2678v3, but looking at benchmarks, rather than sinking money into getting it as fast as my older systems, I'm tempted to save up towards a Threadripper or even and older EPYC.

These have slower AVX performance. For example, AVX1 supports only floating-point operations, while AVX2 has 256-bit integer operations. For some applications, this can make a huge difference.
The Haswell generation also has a slightly improved branch prediction algorithm.
If you're using these for number-crunching or machine learning, I would much rather have the Haswell generation. But for ordinary software, the Ivy Bridge will serve well.

DDR3 vs DDR4 is negligible, you can use 1866mhz memory and you have a quad-channel configuration.

It's also a question of RAM. Much as I love Haswell, you have to buy DDR4 and it is a lot more expensive than DDR3. I depends on how much RAM you need.

(I am aware that there are rare 2011v3 boards that use DDR3)

That sucks, thanks for the info. Such a shitjob. Welp, now it sucks to be intel in the age of epyc.

it's oem so it might not but then again there's a chance it might. like lenovo s30 single cpu doesn't support it but the d30 dual cpu does.....

You seem to have lost the [SARCASM] tag from the quote of my post. My point was that plugging own sale thread in the great deals post is only relevant (and acceptable?) if the price of the item is comparable to the deal being discussed.
