It appears that my Wyse has lost the ability to work with 32 GB of memory. After BIOS update from 1.1.3 to 1.5.0 display stays blank, power LED is on. If I put 4GB or 8GB of memory, it works well.
I can downgrade version 1.5.0 to 1.4.2, but for anything below the message "Bios Blocked due to unsuported downgrade" is displayed.

What BIOS version are you on?
Do you know of any BIOS flashing tools that may ignore the version?

Perhaps you could ask Dell/Wyse to fix the BIOS to restore support of bigger sodimms?

I'm on 1.4.2. I don't have any 16gb dimms to try, but mine will recognize/boot with 2x 8gb dimms, seems the startup time is a lot longer than the 2x 4gb I normally run.

If anyone has a lead on a reasonable priced 5070, please let me know. I have a dell 3050 with a J1800 and it is ok, but slower than I like. I want a small computer with a decent speed 4 core processor, and the ability to have more than 8gb of total memory.

126 USD good enough for you?

I picked up one of these with 8GB of ram on ebay because I need a new bench computer. They're super cute!

False alarm and a weird coincidence. Apparently one of my memory sticks failed at the same time as I was doing a BIOS update. I always used them in pairs.Today I decided to use them in 4GB+16GB configuration and then it turned out that one of them is defective. I'm going to order two new ones and try the 2x16GB configuration again in a few days.

$94 at CDW Outlet:
WYSE CTO 5070 THIN CLIENT (BSTK) - 3000046278619-BSTK - - CDW.com

No description found on site.

You know that there is a second ethernet option (in place of the 3rd VGA/Serial location). Or also SFP...

2nd Network RJ45 - List Price $53 - Part #403-BCBU / GH0AR76
Fiber Ready (SFP) - List Price $67 - Part #403-BCBV / G3BEJK1

If someone could figure out how to get either, then the thin one could be a really nice small firewall.

I ordered it for $94. I asked the sales person for a description, and they knew nothing. Soon enough I will know.
I am now in the market for a m.2 sata ssd if anyone has any leads...

Do you have a full list of optional parts for the Wyse 5070?
There is a seller on ebay from China with new motherboards for 5070 ($50). Perhaps other parts could also be obtained.

No, those were the only ones I was really interested in. I just went thru and configured the various options and looked at the build summary and searched. The RJ45/SFP are both exclusive of wireless, so I assume they plug into the mini PCI-e. I haven't found any cheap mini PCI-e -> network.

There is a pretty good summary here with part #'s, but I don't know how complete it is:
Dell Wyse 5070 Extended
I don't see anything else really that isn't going to be cheaper aftermarket.

Check Newegg's 4th July sale. Good selection of computer parts, including 2260/2280 M.2 SSDs as reported on Slickdeals.
FYI, the 5070/5070 "big" will not take 2242 drives, only 2260 and 2280. Keep that in mind during your shopping sessions.

I have yet to see any decent deals from newegg, and I have seen no slickdeal deals on m.2 sata drives in the last week.
I do have two 32gb sata m.2, which are 2242 or so. I was wondering if I could just stick them in the connector and they might stay in place. Clearly not a good long term solution. If anyone has a use for a tiny 32gb drive, let me know.

Eh, yeah, you can just use some gaffer's tape to hold the 2242 drive in place...that's what I use for testing on my 5070.

Also, 45 USD for a 512GB TLC (discount pricing during the 4th of July sale) wasn't terrible...

I got my 5070 from CDW. It has 4gb of ram, 16gb of emmc, and dual band wifi. Some kind of intel wireless. Came with 2 external antennas.

I got it booting from usb and booted up knoppix linux. It was running with 4k video (my native monitor resolution). Playing a generic youtube video got the CPU up to 41C. Now I just need to get a m.2 sata ssd...

Okay, quick update -

So in terms of RAM upgrades, I picked up a Crucial 2x16GB SODIMM set from Newegg for ~125 over the 4th of July weekend and it arrived today. In addition, I also picked up a pair of G.Skill Ripjaws DDR4 32GB SODIMMs for the Ryzen embedded V1756 powered HP t740 thin client - the SODIMM pair were roughly 240 USD each. The plan was to use the Ripjaws RAM on the t740, and if it didn't work, the Crucial can be used instead. Fortunately, the RAM worked and the t740 is now running with 64GB of RAM. I don't see why this would not work for the R1505 powered t640.

G.Skills Ripjaws DDR4.png

What about putting the Ripjaws 32GB SODIMM on the 5070? No such luck. The machine powers on and the amber LED blinks a 2-5 error code repeatedly, which indicates invalid RAM...so it's very unlikely for the machine to break the 32GB barrier. Note that this error happens regardless of whether the 32GB SODIMM is mounted on slot 1, slot 2, by itself or in conjunction with another SODIMM unit. Once the machine sees the 32GB SODIMM it'll flash the invalid RAM error. The Crucial RAM pair did work on the 5070 so that machine now have 32GB of RAM.

Now keep in mind that the Lenovo ThinkCentre m725q gen2 (Ryzen 3/5 2xxxGE series) will start seeing an EOL induced price drop later in the quarter when the Ryzen 4000s shows up en-masse, and the fact that there are HP t640s on EvilBay US best-offers for about 200 USD. The t640s are like the Ryzen equivalent to the 5070s and should be able to take 32GB SODIMMs. One of the issues that I have with 5070 pricing is that you are paying higher prices because Dell-Wyse are still selling them as "current products", despite that they are a 2 year old design that was leapfrogged by HP in 2019 by their "4" series. If you can get the 5070 cheap, sure, go for it. But if you look at the Project TinyMiniMicro thread...well, you can find more cost-effective deals.

The interesting thing is that Dell-Wyse has a 2-3 year product cadence with their thin clients - the 5060 came out in Q4 2016, while the 5070 came out in Q3 2018. The question is whether they are planning to roll a 5080 at the end of the year, or is it postponed. The question is whether they are sticking with Jasper Lake Atoms, or AMD...?

HP has a similar 3 year cadence with their products. The t620 plus was announced in Q4 2013, the t730 in Q4 2015, while the t740 in Q2 2019 (possibly due to AMD not fielding Ryzen embedded V1000 until Q1 2018).
