My lab project has finished and my 3x server cluster has sold. So now come the hard drives.

**HPE NVME DRIVE SLEDS NOT INCLUDED**

I have the following
9x 7x 5x Intel SSD DC D4502 7.68TB NVME (DELL/EMC Branded) - $650/ea
6x 3x Intel Optane SSD 900P U.2 Interface + oem BOX - NO game code (280GB) - $225/ea

Hours were good - don't have NVME/U.2 to even pull smart info now. I bought these a few months ago and had no concerns at all about TBW or hours. Most of the optane were NEW when I bought them last month on ebay.

But my guess is that they are QLC drives - since the capacity is so high - and it shares product number "prefix" with the D3600/D3700 series - so its probably also a dual port drive - I think that is what all the "D" prefix drives are, just like "P" are NVME and S SATA.

But its hard to know without any official specs - its weird :)

FWIW - When I bought drives I was able to find specs on the OEM for the 3.84tb ones - From my tests the first section numbers seemed to be reasonable accurate for the larger 7.68tb one I have.


D5402 3.84TB quoted as:

128k Sequential Read: up to 1600MB/s
128k Sequential Write: up to 1200Mb/s
4k Random Read: Up to 637,000 IOPS
4k Random Write: Up to 139,000 IOPS

D4500 (which doesn't show a 8tb drive)
128k Sequential Read: up to 3200MB/s
128k Sequential Write: up to 1800Mb/s
4k Random Read: Up to 645,000 IOPS
4k Random Write: Up to 48,000 IOPS

D4510 (only series I can see with 8tb drives)
128k Sequential Read: up to 3200MB/s
128k Sequential Write: up to 3000Mb/s
4k Random Read: Up to 620,000 IOPS
4k Random Write: Up to 140,000 IOPS

Not that I don't believe you - I just like to read stuff like that myself :)

The D4500 is probably the same as the P4500 - just with dual ports - same with the D4510, which matches the specs of my P4510 - usually larger drives have better performance because of more chips to spread the load across, so performance for your drive is probably in between the D4500 and the D4510 is my guess - and then its decent :)

If I was rich I would snag at least two of the D4502 drives - I mean who would not love a mirror of NVME at 7.6TB :)

Just out of curiosity - what did you use this many NVME drives for?

No link - I had to do a LOT of scouring myself to find specs- I too was hesitant buying these kind of blindly - they are NOT as fast as my 1725b's but they are larger capacity.. - I know I bought 3x to test.. then the other 6x after. The best I was able to do was use (partial) part numbers..

Just out of curiosity - what did you use this many NVME drives for?
I was doing some VSAN testing in a 3 node cluster. Was running 3x Disk groups (each group was 1x Optane & 1x 7.68TB on each node). Tried carving NVME's namespace's up and using 1725b's as cache too - Ultimate conclusion was the amount of money to gain cluster performance far exceeded what I was willing to do.

The 900p arrive today and have to say it was well packaged and arrived quickly. I will post the SMART values so you can see how little use they have on them. I also threw in a quick benchmark.

Damn, 900p was good deal, too. :) Congrats for fast selling. :)
