Updated all the microcodes, 306F2 was outdated, but it did not change a thing. Might try older microcodes for 306F1. Perhaps you know where I could find these ones?

Thanks
i have found only this in supermicro bios list, we have to look into intel mobo i think.

Unfortunately, the bios does not allow to set any higher than 14. Might try to disable the validation.
QEY8 is IMHO NOT a E5-2696v3 ES2 because ES2 have never same baseclock than production unit.
on many chineese sites they say QEY8 is E5-2695v3 ES. but that is also unlikely because the baseclock.
what will match is the E5-2697v3 - 14 cores 2.60Ghz ( the ES2 have lower baseclock as usually) the only problem is the need of ddr3.
If there are 4 cores disabled, why the L3 cache is not 45MB ??? L3 cache should stay at the same.
OK, i will stop here now.

Ok I can now confirm that a W-2140b (iMac specific) will post in a standard c422 Supermicro x11srm-f-o motherboard. I don't have ram yet, but got the Supermicro logo screen on the lcd, gor the 5 short and 1 long beep signifying no ram (or no good ram) installed. I'll have some ram in another week I guess and I'll report back. These pulled xeons are available on ebay and aliexpress.

the W-2150b runs on all motherboards too.
the iMac custom chips have special TDP to match the cooling system.
i have both 2140b and 2150b and they run on super x11srm-f and lenovo p520(c) boards.

And likely the w-2170b also.

The thing is you pay twice as much for a w-2150b. For a 15% performance increase. In terms of passmark ratings anyway, ymmv. I suppose if you knew where to look you can get better then the 410$ tag currently on ebay. For 210$, what I paid, for roughly the equivalent of a w-2145 (for all intensive purposes it may be a w-2145), I made out like a bandit.

bought the 2140b for 165€ and the 2150b for 193€ without shipping.
after that the price of the 2150b rises to 233€

Where did you buy them?

And if anyone is using a SM x11srm-f-o mobo, can you recommend 2933mhz ram. On the cheap side please ;). I know of all the usual channels. And I'm not adverse to buying 16gb of used ram seeing my micro is used already.

The -o as used above just signifies it's a retail packaged part, no?

i think many user are upgrading to 2933, you may not see used ram.
you have quad channel ! so why 2933 ? just to have faster memory than your neighbor ?

I don't know too many people who purposefully opt for less performance over more. There was some 2933mhz memory on ebay just yesterday, very reasonable. Do you specifically resent people who operate faster ram then you do?

no of course not. you asked for good price. 2933 is not as fast as you think, it runs mostly at cl22. if you need more memory bandwidth you should go to lga3647(hexa channel) with cheap 2400 ram. there are cheap cascade lake 3647 es on ebay.

Does anyone have experience with Cascade Lake ES2's on AsRock boards? I'm thinking about putting an A0 one in an EPC621D4I, but there is precious little info on LGA3647 ES'es in anything other than Supermicro boards.
AsRock has had a good track record of supporting strange processors (practically every Haswell and Broadwell chip worked in their X99 boards) but the situation with the early Skylake-SP's seemed...poor.

skylake 3647 ES can be cpuid 50650(es0),50651(es1),50652(es2)

cascade lake es2(i.e. QQ8M) have cpuid 50655, the same cpuid than several early production units.
i have not tested but they should run without problems.

Neat, digging further it does appear that some of the Cascade Lake Xeons (e.g. 5220) share a stepping with the ES2's so it should just work. Also bodes well for the ES2's, the fact that some of them made it to production would imply there are no showstopper bugs.

i have QQ8M,QQ8A,QQ8B tested and working without any issues on supermicro x11spm.
