That is the problem. 4 would be optimal. NAS, host(lab) and main pc + one extra. I suppose that I could live with two ports and link aggregation. With current setup, Im limited with disk write/read speed. Have some ssd storage, but other storage are sata disks.
Is noise or advanced routing a consideration?

Too bad there isn't a non poe variant of the CRS328-24P-4S+RM that would likely come in just over his budget but be a perfect fit(although at ~300 that is what I bought for home finally)

If 4 10Gb ports is optimal how many single giabit ports do you need? Something like a GLC-T or S-RJ01 could turn a few in to 1gb coper ports easily and cheaply if you browse around on ebay.(5 each is probably the lowest i've seen)

I just picked up a QNAP QSW-308-1C to add 10G connectivity to my home theater setup. Great little switch if you don't need managed.

With this chain:

* FreeBSD 12 (iperf -s -w 512k -P 4)
* Supermicro / Intel 10g onboard SFP+ adapter
* fiberstore DAC cable
* TP-Link T1700-28G
* fiberstore Cisco branded SFP-10G-SR transceiver
* 50 ft OM3 fiber cable
* fiberstore Cisco branded SFP-10G-SR transceiver
* QNAP QSW-308-1C
* 10g Cat6 cable
* Supermicro / Aquantia 10G
* Windows 10 / Ubuntu WSL (iperf -c -w 512k -P 4)

I get 9.49Gbits / sec with iperf out of the box

The folks at fiberstore were super helpful with advising me on the right transceivers and cabling for this setup.

Too bad they're shipping them with an old version of SwOS that's got a pretty bad performance issue that affects some computers plugged into it. I got my CRS309 2 weeks ago and it came with 2.7 which has issues with traffic that goes through it from 10gig -> 1gig. After putting 2.10 on the CRS309 and my two CSS-326's all the problems went away. The CRS309 in the middle made the issue much worse than just using the CSS326's.

Copying data at 2-3MB/sec to a computer connected to a CSS326 via 1gig which is connected to the CRS309 via 10gig which is connected to the source PC via 10gig isn't exactly impressive. After updating everything to 2.10 the transfers to that same PC were ~85MB/sec.

I can't speak to SwOS since all of my devices are CRS line but I haven't run into anything less than wirespeed in my experiences(but I usually stay on top of software updates who knows what i've missed) Why would you use the 1gig port on the CRS309 for anything other than management/redundtant power out of curiosity?

Where did I say that I used the 1gig port on the CRS309 for anything? The 10gig to 1gig was in the CSS326's. Running the 10gig traffic through the CRS309 first before the CSS326 made the problem even worse.

They shouldn't be shipping new products with old, outdated, & buggy firmware.

Doesn't everyone do this though ?
Usually the first thing you need to do when buying a new anything is to update the firmware/BIOS/drivers !

In my experience yes, it may have left the line up to date but especially smaller stuff you order somewhere like amazon it's sat for a few months at minimum.

Except the CRS309 only started shipping after the release of the most recent firmware (2.10) and yet they're shipping a firmware (2.7) that's from 2+ years earlier. There's some intermediate firmware releases in there too that they ignored too.

Mikrotik released some new switches:
CRS354-48P-4S+2Q+RM
CRS354-48G-4S+2Q+RM

The design is for L2.

Hello,

I've had a TP-Link T1700-28TQ since they were released and the 10GB SFP+ works great for my NAS/iSCSI connection for VMWare, I however recently purchased a QNAP QNA-UC5G1T USB 3.2 Gen 1 to 5GbE adapter to get faster transfers to and from my MacBook Pro, via my existing home wiring (Cat6).
I have seen the STH YouTube clip regarding "cheap SFP+ to RJ45" modules but unfortunately in Australia these are virtually impossible to source, so I purchased a Ubiquiti version (UF-RJ45-10G) but it doesn't seem to want to play nice, and won't even dumb down to 1GBe let alone the 5GBe that I was after!

So, getting to the point, can anyone let me know if it would be my switch that is the issue, or the module? If I do happen to get hold of one of the modules that supports 2.5/5/10GBe like the MikroTik S+RJ10, will it work at 5GBe speeds with my existing switch, the T1700-28TQ?

Thanks in advance!

The switch only supports 1/10GBit speeds, so the module is pretty much useless.
So ... I might need to replace the switch, what's the current recommendation?

Requirements: Fanless (it's in the study wardrobe), at least 4x SFP+ possibly extra 10GBe RJ45 (all able to do 1, 2.5, 5, 10GB), at least 12x 1GBe RJ45 ... rack mount ... management is not essential, can be dumb switch ...

Thanks!
