So ran into a slight issue...
I recently aquired some Samsung 860EVO 500GB, and i thought that it was going to be a fairly simple task of slotting em into the VRTX and just create a Virtual Disk... nope.

What im currently running
Dell VRTX
Dual PERC8 @ v23.14.06.0013
Expander Backplane @ v2.0.0
860SSDs on the latest Firmware
latest FW on the rest of the components

Now the issue im running into is that the SSD is marked as "Blocked". Not much more info then that.
What ive tried is:
- slotting it directly from the box > Blocked
- Creating a GPT > Blocked
- Creating a GPT then NTFS or FAT32 > Blocked
- dd if=/dev/null > Blocked
- Secure Erase with Samsung Magician > Blocked

Is there any other thing that i could try before binning the idea?

Yeah you have 2 issues, the first is that the VRTX only supports Sas drives and the second is that it only supports Sas drives with dell firmware so you can't just get an off the shelf drive

That's incorrect. VRTX does support non Dell SAS drives. The drive just needs to support SAS reservations.
