Hello!
I have a quiestion about netapp FAS filers
I want to buy from ebay Netapp FAS 6240, maybe 6280 (single unit, without HA), and i am worry about licensing. Can i use netapp buyed from hands? i readed about i must have a licensed to use it, it is a true? I need basic functional - iscsi, fc and flashcache. It will be working or FAS from ebay its a really just brick?
Thank you in advance for the answers, it is very important for me

If you want to stay licensed I'd find a second hand reseller that will guarantee that. They'll tell you you need a new license to do so, but then you can stay licensed.

So, if i buy random filer on ebay, it will be just a box, without any functionality?

Not sure about licensing on it but 62X0 was the top dog and it was the controller only without disks in it. Do you really want to get it and add disk shelves?

I'd get relatively newer mid-range used models and it will probably outperform it for lower price, and more features since they will be supported on newer ontap versions.

Yes, disk shelves not a problem, i have 3x42U racks in my lab) But licensing is a real trouble(
Maybe you tell me about newer models from mid-range segment? This is a very interest for me.

FAS 8000 series, something like 8040/8060 should be good. Depending on what you use it for, maybe even 8020 is sufficient. I believe FAS 8000 is sill supported on OnTap 9 but 6082 is support on ontap 8 only.
