As much as I’d like them to, I sincerely doubt it. This has now made the rounds on various deal sites and from all accounts, people have been ordering them in quantity.Let's hope they honor this.
I am hopefully optimistic that these will eventually be shipped. There were a few comments on redit that some of these were shipped in Europe.So why have these not been cancelled yet?

That comment is correct. Western Digital's Passport external drives have, for some time, only had a single USB connection on the internal drive's PCB. If you remove the 2.5" drive from the enclosure, it still needs to be hooked up via USB; there is not a SATA header on the drive. There is no "USB to SATA" adapter to remove; it is all built into the drive's PCB, unfortunately.I saw this in the comments, can anyone confirm ?
can you disassemble it for an internal hdd?

no. unless you connect it to a USB header. it does not have a SATA connector.
