There is also one further nice feature of this switch (even a killer argument for some) -
as you might have seen/read this is the short depth version of the switch, according to
https://www.aspsys.com/servers/Mellanox-MSX6036F-1BRS-InfiniBand-Switch-with-36-ports-p3692.htm
its <Height 1.7" x Width 16.85" x Depth 24.7">

24.7" is about 63cm so a bit long for some smaller/network racks.

But that seems to be including rack rails, because in reality that little baby is only 43 cms long (maybe 45 with power cable) and since it has the ports in front it will fit in my network rack quite nicely:)
O/c that might mean I'll have to use the 3m DACs for it but I can live with that;)

Yes

Edit: Fans run at ~11k rpm and can go up to 18k rpm
I honestly think its not that bad.

After it has settled after boot its ok I'd say. Not silent o/c but some of my 2u servers are louder...

Thanks for the HP Link, will definitly have a good use for that :) I really cant await mine.. Yesterday i have received the qsfp cables from fs, now i am missing the network cards but they are coming from the USA and are currently departed from the JFK airport. And thats just because you cant get those HP 649281-B21 cheap in Europe :(

What fans did you replace them with?
efb0412hhd 8200rpm 9.43cfm 0.15amp pwm fan ,but need cut pwm wire .

Otherwise it will first it will set 60% after boot up,then it will 40% 100% and then 40% 100% loops(in sx6012 log )

after I cut pwm wire. everything is ok , fan light remain green , no alerts messages . The temperature is 5 degrees higher than origin fan.

No, they are not. There is a lenovo part# that you can buy, but for now I have none.
Tried mounting without (similar to regular switch with rack ears but the rail inner part is too soft to keep it in place).
Not really keen on spending another 100 bucks on rails, so will MacGuyver sth.

Ok,
  1. there is nothing you *need* to pay - the default version will net you a nice 36 port infiniband switch
  2. The 40->56 license only enables FDR instead of QDR on the switch so is basically useless
  3. In order to enable it to be used for Ethernet you have three choices
    1. Buy a license from Mellanox for ~3k last I checked
    2. Buy a license from the previously mentioned new member
    3. Check the aforementioned thread to see how you might get one (by nicely asking the correct person)
Please note that the only official way to get these is to buy them from Mellanox, so if you don't want to do that there is no guarantee that you will be able to get one. Don't get one of these switches if you are not prepared to risk that.

Yikes, they bumped the price up to 200 now... still a good deal I guess but they’re probably running out of switches.

Can anyone with an Apple device also check?
Maybe its that user (device) specific "individual" pricing that is mentioned every now and then.
As a non - Apple user i never encountered it;)
